GDIT is looking for a hands-on AWS Cloud Engineer to join our large IT infrastructure program in support of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) based in Research Triangle Park, NC. As a hands-on Engineer, you will work within a team of architects and engineers to design and implement secure AWS Cloud solutions. This role will assist in developing technical architectures, design documents, and operational documents based on best practices and tailored to the clients’ needs and infrastructure. You will work with software developers to assess, design, migrate or transform legacy solutions to the Cloud. In this role, the candidate should have a strong understanding of application, server, network security, and government requirements such as FISMA, FedRAMP, and ATO process.

All in all, you should bring a solid engineering/technical background with hands-on experience conceptualizing, strategizing and deploying Cloud solutions. Position is for full time employment and will be based at GDIT’s office in Research Triangle Park, NC. Teleworking/remote workers will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Proven extensive technical knowledge of the AWS platform
  • Expert knowledge of OS technology
  • Advanced scripting (Java, Perl, PHP, Python, Go, Node.js, Bash etc) and automation skills(Terraform) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of web services.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the DNS resolution process including DNS tools and migration.
  • Thorough working knowledge of common networking gear, e.g., switches, firewalls, segmentation, default ports for common protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, etc.), and subnetting.
  • Thorough understanding of Health Check options (TCP, HEAD, GET), and how to suspend servers and read loadbalancer rules.
  • Basic working knowledge of IDS, LogMon, WAF, and DDoS mitigation.
  • Intermediate understanding of the implementation, limitations, and ideal use cases for a hybrid hosting environment.
  • Thorough understanding of enterprise cloud storage technologies
  • Thorough working knowledge of network troubleshooting using tcpdump.
  • Understands the link between a customer’s technical environment and their business demands.
  • Deep understanding of migration processes.
  • Ability to manage through difficult situations internally and with external customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical info and ideas so others will understand.
  • Strong problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with customers and all functional team members.
  • Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups.

Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent plus 10 years IT experience is desired
  • 5+ years experience with AWS Cloud Services
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure a plus
