GDIT is seeking a Liquid Handling Automation Specialist to provide laboratory support for enhancing laboratory capacity for comprehensive investigation into Influenza Virus. We are seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to be responsible for liquid handler automated system (e.g., TECAN). This position is located in immunology and pathogenesis branch (IPB), Influenza Division, CDC. The purpose of this position is to provide key professional support in the mission of the IPB/influenza division with responsibilities for comprehensive analyses of immunological responses to influenza vaccination and infection in humans and research activities leading to improved control of influenza.


  • Configure and program automated liquid handling instrument to improve the throughput of influenza immunological assays.
  • Implement and maintain the automation workflow for high throughput influenza immune assays, to contribute to the objectives to conduct comprehensive assessment of human immunity to influenza.
  • Assist and perform validation experiments with subject matter experts
  • Perform required maintenance to support the automation system
  • Assist in troubleshooting of the automation system
  • Ability to work effectively with other members of a multifunctional dynamic team, ability to handle multiple projects at one time in a fast-paced environment.  


Required Skills and Experience:

  • BS in Engineering, ideally with experience with Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven automation experience required
  • Experience operating and assisting in developing methods for automated liquid handling systems required. Systems used will binclude Tecan, Agilent, Perkin Elmer and or Beckman Coulter.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise with liquid handling equipment and other general laboratory equipment
  • Good laboratory and organizational skills, the ability to work independently and efficiently is essential
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • MS and 2 plus years with Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field
  • Knowledge of influenza immunological or similar assays
This position requires being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 18, 2022 or the start date, if after January 18. Individuals who work in or reside in Texas or Montana or work outside of the United States may be excluded from this requirement.
