The cartographer extracts and compiles geospatial information as feature (point, line, or area) and terrain data from selected source materials, utilizing photogrammetric techniques to achieve an accurate cartographic representation of a specific area at a specific scale (or level of detail) for digital data and geospatial data from imagery, intelligence database, and various ancillary sources in support of national security goals and strategies. The cartographer utilizes an understanding of geography, remote sensing, spatial analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), intelligence issues, and social and physical sciences to create information, characterize events, and discover relationships and trends.

 Job Duties

  • Extract specific feature data in accordance with the NGA Feature Data Specifications, NGA/PC Project Specific Guidance and other NGA Data or Product Specifications.
  • Utilize stereo and mono imagery in the extraction of special geospatial datasets supporting NGA’s GEOINT mission.
  • Develop and implement a metadata catalog based on NGA standards for spatial metadata.
  • Produce geospatial digital feature data and/or digital terrain data to support NGA analysis objectives.
  • Correctly attribute extracted feature data based on NGA Specifications, Feature and Attribute Coding Catalog (FACC), and/or the NSG Feature Data Dictionary (NFDD).
Required Skills
  • BS/BA Degree with 8+years of total experience or equivalent years and education experience
  • At least 3+ years of experience in designing and developing data-driven web mapping applications for interactive location Intelligence visualization and storytelling
  • Must have a strong background in HTML, CSS, and Javascript with experience using D3, MapboxGL, Chart.js, Deck.gl, Vega or other data visualization libraries.
  • Must have prior cartographic experience creating custom web maps at different scales and in multiple projections
  •  Prior experience using current web development frameworks such as React or Vue.
  • Prior data analysis and BI integration with backend datastores such as Elasticsearch and PostgreSQL.
  •  Prior experience building secure web app microservices using proxy and api management with Nginx, Kong, or Apigee.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting client authentication with RESTful APIs using Token, OAuth, or SAML
  • Must have a Secret clearance and/or eligible for TS/SCI clearance
