At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Scrum Master supporting a Big Data program, a typical day will include:

  • Working in an Agile environment following Lean and SAFe Agile methodologies.
  • Managing requirements and creating user stories with input from the Project Manager, Technical Lead, Development Lead, and the customer as well as other teams within the contract.
  • Working in conjunction with the Project Manager, team leads, and customer to prioritize work for each sprint.
  • Ensuring the Project Manager stays informed of the status of the many ongoing activities and coordinating with teams to obtain needed information.
  • Acting as a servant leader and aiding with the resolution of blocking impediments.
  • Conducting outreach and coordination with stakeholders, and acting as liaison between stakeholders, Government and Contractor Management, and the team.
  • Identifying differences in understanding issues as they occur; working with the team to problem-solve or escalate to management if needed.
  • Coaching and mentoring the team in Agile values, principles, and practices.
  • Facilitating the Agile ceremonies, such as daily Scrum, planning, retrospectives, and reviews.
  • Coaching a continuous improvement mindset and recommend adjustments to established delivery practices.
  • Facilitating communication among the team.
  • Utilizing tools and reports, such as JIRA and Confluence, to collect, develop and analyze Agile data and metrics, managing progress on a daily basis.


  • Keep user stories updated in the requirements tool and on the scrum board.
  • Enter new user stories into the requirements tool.
  • Work with team to groom the backlog in preparation of sprints.
  • Run the daily scrums, sprint planning sessions and sprint review meetings.
  • Create Agile Ceremonies slides.
  • Manage the change management / SPOT reporting process.
  • Request system accesses for team members.
  • Update team documentation as needed.
  • Schedule meetings, TEMS, and conference rooms as needed.
  • Attend meetings and takes meeting minutes.
  • Assist Project Manager with creating briefings.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as a Scrum Master within an Enterprise Agile software development environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex technical topics to management and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience using JIRA and Confluence.


  • Active Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Lean Agile Institute Certified Scrum Master (LAI-SM), SAFe Scrum Master, and/or SAFe Advanced Scrum Master certification.
  • Experience on multiple Scrum teams in a variety of different contexts (different team sizes, different organizations, different cultures, co-located vs. distributed, etc.).
  • Well versed in a variety of Agile approaches (Lean, SAFe, Scrum/LeSS, Kanban).
  • Knowledge of development environments, platforms, and technologies including Java, NiFi, data engineering and cloud technology.
  • Experience with software DevSecOps/DevOps pipeline processes and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and interact regularly with government and non-government stakeholders at multiple levels of authority.
  • Works well as a team member in a fast-paced and often time-sensitive environment.
