GDIT is seeking a Biological Scientist II to support WRAIR's Structural Vaccinology Laboratory. The contractor shall conduct applied research in vaccine development in support of the Malaria Structural Vaccinology Lab. This task involves researching and executing novel technologies in the field of molecular biology protein biochemistry and GMP process development. Specifically the contractor shall:

  1. conduct heterologous expression systems; perform methodologies required in protein expression, purification and quantification;
  2. develop malarial antigens as vaccine candidates and have the basic understanding of vaccine purity, composition and stability requirements;
  3. independently plan and execute complex expression and purification experiments;
  4. interact with outside funders and collaborators to include industry partners;
  5. keep the lab PI in the loop on experimental progress and work related communications in real-time;
  6. produce required documentation for the CMC section of an IND;
  7. assist in writing batch production records, grant proposals and scientific manuscripts as well as perform statistical analysis of data;
  8. coordinate and write reports, work plans and scopes of work for MIDRP projects;
  9. maintain records, including paper and electronic files;
  10. develop timelines and plans and execute vaccine production;
  11. statistically analyze data and generate ready for communication and scientific papers;
  12. coordinate and write reports, work plans and scopes of work for MIDRP projects;
  13. maintain records, including paper and electronic files;
  14. provide assistance to other lab members with all job-related matters including training of junior staff, preparing progress reports/technical reports;
  15. support a safe workplace ensuring awareness of and observing appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations; and
  16. attend safety training relative to efforts in this task and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.




PhD preferred




Ability to produce recombinant proteins and particulate vaccines and characterize them by using biochemical and biophysical techniques.
