GDIT has an exciting opportunity for a Generator/HVAC-Chiller Mechanical Engineer Lead with the CECOM Regional Support Center in Afghanistan. The selected candidate must have a current and active US Government issued Secret clearance.

The ideal candidate will already have an Afghanistan Visa. However, will consider other qualified candidates that do not already have the Afghanistan Visa.

The candidate will report to the Leadership internal and external to the Kuwait Regional Support Center (RSC). Oversees the daily operation of the Generator repair area and remote located Generator Mechanics to include scheduled and PMCS maintenance execution, data base inputs, parts ordered, CRDL report submission, analysis of data and track timely completion of all work orders.

Will be the specialist capable of performing and assist other mechanics as required.

  • Coordination of all sites support requirements.
  • Access work load, monitor op tempo and assign work task, delegate TDYs and outer/internal FOB assignments.  
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that is cooperative and supportive of customers, co-workers and managers.
  • Tests, troubleshoots repairs, modifies, overhauls, and installs a variety of generator systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Connects equipment to specialized test sets and test equipment and conducts specified tests.
  • Pinpoints and replaces defective parts; conducts operational tests, aligns and adjust repaired equipment.
  • Chiller experience is a must.
  • On new or modified equipment configurations, assists in the solution of practical design and test problems.
  • Determines most efficient work sequences by trying various step-by-step procedures.
  • Sets up test apparatus and conducts tests of production assemblies and units following methods, procedures, standards and sequences.
  • Uses hand and small power tools and various measuring and testing devices in performing job duties.
  • Must be EPA 608 Certified (Universal).
  • Must be able to work independently and without supervision.
  • Some TDY May be required.


  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance required.
  • Ability to successfully complete CRC requirements prior to deploying.
  • 9 years of experience consisting of either a BS/BA and 5 years’ experience, AA/AS and 7 years’ experience or a High School Diploma and 9 years’ experience.
  • The successful candidate will have experience to include: knowledge of diesel generators, military and commercial models; use of manual and automated test equipment (multi-meters, volt meters, etc.).
  • Working knowledge (formal training and practical experience) with engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and electronic schematics.
  • Experience deployed and working in austere conditions supporting military, government, and other civilian customers.
