Our work depends on a Front-End Developer joining our team to support one of our federal customers in Rockville, MD.

At GDIT, we foster a people-centric environment. We are looking for a developer with strong front-end skills to support a client’s internet initiative. The developer will deliver innovative solutions for improving the effectiveness, reach, and content of the internet site to improve the effectiveness of the client’s workforce. Our team will sustain, expand, and improve the Drupal-based site with static and dynamic content, including integration with other internal and external sources.

This role requires a combination front-end programming skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JavaScript frameworks) aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen, the color and font choices), and accessibility. The best candidate has a strong understanding of industry trends and using agile methodologies for development and deployment processes that can be used in Drupal-based systems. Some back-end knowledge is preferred, especially micro services.

The candidate will be responsible for working across the software life cycle, with an emphasis on design and development.  The ideal candidate, while focused on front-end development would also be able to contribute as developer to other parts of the application and testing stack. The candidate will work collaboratively with the team to best realize system requirements in the Drupal platform by identifying what is best provided by Drupal and its modules, what should be customized and to implement and integrate these solutions to create a compelling experience for users. In this role, a typical day will include:

• Write clean, maintainable, testable, and extensible code using platform and industry standards using JavaScript HTML, CSS, and frameworks such as React, Foundation, Ozone, jQuery, and Bootstrap in a Drupal context.  Writing code in PHP and/or Java is a plus.
• Configure libraries and builds using tools such as Composer, Maven and NPM
• Integrate external resources, especially web services, and make them available to users through web user interfaces
• Ensure the accessibility (e.g., 508 compliance) of Drupal-based web solutions
• Contribute to all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (e.g., Requirements, Design, Development, and Testing)
• Conduct multiple levels of testing including unit, system, integration, and performance, with automation where possible.
• Collaborate with the team on agile activities including to estimation, iterative planning, and retrospectives
• Integrate development work as part of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
• Manage code and other artifacts using Git
• Participate in code reviews.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in in computer science/systems, information systems/technology, engineering/engineering technology, software engineering/programming, management, natural sciences, social sciences, mathematics, or business/finance.
• 5+ years of development experience
