Job Description Summary:

Clearance: US Security required (Interim Secret to start)

We are seeking an Expert Level System Administrator with VDI experience. This is a very visible and high level role.

GDIT is provides enterprise-wide IT services in support of our customer - US Southern Command’s (SOUTHCOM). We provide mission critical operational support throughout their Area of Responsibility (AOR), which consists of Central America, South America, and select countries in the Caribbean. SOUTHCOM is headquartered in Doral, FL. Together we support 10,000 users supported on this program (called SCITES).

We are working to deliver and operationalize information technology (IT) services for all US SOUTHCOM combatant command constructed networks. These constructed networks span the US SOUTHCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR). Work performed under this Task Order directly provides US SOUTHCOM a defensible, secure, modern, and efficient IT infrastructure across all combatant command constructed networks.

Currently we have an opportunity for a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) SME to work in support of SOUTHCOM Cyber Information Technology Enterprise Services (SCITES).

This position supports SOUTHCOM's transformative move to a Zero Trust Architecture in alignment with the DoD Zero Trust Strategy and Executive Order (EO) 14028.

Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • In addition to architecting and designing, the VDI Engineer will provide TIER 3/4 support to system administrators to resolve VDI issues.
  • Provide guidance on optimization of desktops for platform interoperability and act as liaison between Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) technologies.
  • Offers endpoint support on issues and trouble resolution tasks on Virtual Desktop related tasks.
  • Maintains an Advanced knowledge relative to administration, engineering, and implementation of virtual desktop infrastructure-related technologies.
  • Patching and upgrading Horizon View.
  • Updating and patching Windows Gold Master and other images in the environment.
  • Enhancing and fine-tuning performance on VDI desktop.
  • Securing VDI desktop policies in Active Directory.
  • Develops advanced technical solutions for the management of networks, software, hardware, configurations, and architectures.
  • Troubleshoots highly complex system hardware and software issues.
  • Develops training materials and documentation on the proper use of hardware and software.
  • Develops implementation plans for software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Monitors and tunes systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Ensures workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions.
  • Leads efforts to ensure data/media recoverability by following a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
  • Conducts advanced hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Develops performance and security plans for computers that meet the needs of network users.
  • Evaluates existing systems and plans long-term strategies.
  • May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals.
  • May serve as a team or task lead.

  • VMware technologies: Vcenter, vSphere, ESXi, VSAN, Horizon, etc.
  • Dell Wyse Management Suite
  • Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy

  • Liquidware Profile Unity
Education Required:
  • BA/BS or equivalent with 8+ years of experience, or MS with 5+ years
Certification(s) Required:
  • DoD 8570 or 8140 compliant:
  • IAT Level II or III

  • Operating System (OS) Vendor Computing Environment (CE) Certificate 
Certification(s) Desired:

Clearance Required:
  • Prefer a Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI level access.
  • Must have interim clearance and required certifications prior to start in role.
  • Must be able to obtain TS/SCI (eventually).
