GDIT is supporting CDC in cutting edge research and development efforts specifically in influenza surveillance by increasing the diagnostic and immunization tools available to clinical providers, public health laboratories and domestic and international partners.
We are seeking an immunologist and/or virologist with experience in animal models for studies focusing on the immune response to influenza virus and influenza vaccines. Such experience will be used to analyze influenza vaccine effectiveness, identify host and influenza virus traits associated with immunogenicity, and develop more effective approaches to influenza vaccination. This work will provide necessary information for strategic decision making, program planning for control and prevention and program effectiveness evaluation during influenza and related respiratory disease outbreaks, epidemics, or pandemics. The position is in the Influenza Division (ID) Office of Infectious Disease (OID).
• Develop novel techniques and models for laboratory assessment of influenza vaccine efficacy
• Develop and assess methods for identifying immune responses relevant for protection against influenza disease and infection
• Identify molecular aspects of influenza viruses associated with immunogenicity and immune evasion
• Advise on recommendations for new approaches to influenza vaccination, prevention, and treatment
• Prepare and deliver scientific publications, presentations, and communications related to influenza vaccine assessment and development
Develop ferret models including animal handling, and associated practical research
Required Skills and Experience:
MS in virology or immunology or related field and 3-5 years of experience
Experience with ferret or other animal models including animal handling.
Experience with basic virus techniques such as safe virus handling, virus stock preparation, hemagglutination inhibition assays, ELISA
Preferred Skills and Experience:
PhD in virology or immunology or related field and 2 years of experience
