Job Description

In this role you will work with CDC Health Communications, scientific, and management staff to plan and develop content, and assist in the productions of information material for use in print and electronic media. Public health analysis, communication and marketing strategies, services and interventions. Prior CDC experience, Public Health and Health Communication is preferred!

This position will be 100% work from home until CDC’s facilities begin to resume normal operations.) Work will eventually be located onsite at the customer’s location in Atlanta, Georgia. Applicants should be local to Atlanta, GA or willing to relocate to the area at your own expense and able to go onsite when operations resume.

Senior Health Communication responsibilities include:

  • Skills in written communication techniques to write a variety of documents, including science- and audience-based messages and materials for the general public, reports on CDC programs and activities, and communication and marketing plans.
  • Maintain communication with project leaders. Assist in drafting and reviewing documents and reports.
  • Ensure communication activities are based on accepted principles, methods, and best practices.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate traditional and innovative message strategies that meet public health mission and goals.
  • Assist professionals in translating complex epidemiologic and medical information for different audiences and for various media formats.
  • Create social media content (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) to educate target audiences
  • Respond to public inquiries.
  • Develop content for posting on various digital media outlets, including ensuring consistency across communication channels and working within requirements and guidelines.
  • Prepare graphics for websites, social media, and fact sheets.
  • Develop 508-compliant web content and maintain and up-date critical information for targeted audiences in multiple languages.
  • Provide marketing and communications expertise in the development and implementation of plain language printed and online publications, websites, presentations, and other materials Synthesize complex program information and effectively communicate information in written and oral format to various audiences.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as email programs such as Outlook.

  • Ability to take initiative.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work within tight timelines without clear guidelines or instructions.

  • Ability to work across groups and with multiple stakeholders

  • Knowledge of health and risk communication theories, principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Knowledge of web and social marketing practices.

  • Knowledge of public health.

  • Knowledge of interpersonal relations as applicable to communication activities and initiatives.

  • Previous experience in social marketing, health education/communication and promotion. Excellent oral and written communication skills are strongly desired
