GDIT is seeking a Biological Technician III (Lab Manager) to support WRAIR's P. Vivax Malaria Laboratory. The contractor shall with broad guidance from the TPOC work alone or with a multidisciplinary team of military, civilian and/contractor research scientists and technicians to plan and perform in vitro and in vivo research using molecular biology and molecular immunology to generate vaccine/research antigens and investigate immune responses to these antigens in pre-clinical (lab rodents, nonhuman primates) and clinical (human) vaccine trials. Specifically, the contractor shall:
perform all steps associated with molecular cloning techniques;
perform all steps associated with protein expression, purification and characterization to include (but not limited to) fermentation, microfluidization, chromatography, gels and Western blots etc.;
perform all steps associated with immunological analysis of recombinant proteins;
perform multiple specialized humoral assay platforms to include ELISA, IFA, Luminex, and biosensor technology;
perform research on cellular immune responses using techniques such as ELISPOT, Luminex, Flow-Cytometery and tissue culture;
prepare standards and solutions as tasked;
maintain an accurate log of inventories;
perform laboratory administrative duties as assigned;
perform animal handling (rodents and nonhuman primates);
give oral presentations at lab meetings;
assist with preparation of progress reports/technical reports;
perform work closely with other Government and Contractor personnel to plan, develop, and gain approval of such human and animal use protocols as are required for the performance of this task;
perform laboratory tasks according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's); and
establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for various assays.
maintain and update laboratory notebooks and computer files with detailed experimental plans, data and data analysis.
maintain clean and safe laboratory conditions.
maintain and operate Government owned equipment (ELISA plate washers and readers, BIAcore affinity measurement equipment (such as the Attana), flow cytometers, cell counters, cell sorters, array reader, microfluidizer, fermentor, centrifuges, imaging systems, microscopes, etc.)
maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.
maintain an appropriate, professional demeanor at all times and be able to work as a team member
BS in a life sciences discipline
Familiarity with fermentation, Malaria microscopy, animal handling and assay development.
Knowledge in conducting regulated and laboratory research with special emphasis on protein process development in conjunction with immunological analysis. Ability to conduct animal work, process development, immunological analysis along with management (placing orders and handling budget) is a must.
Knowledge of laboratory management, supplies ordering/procurement with training and use of the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS), Electronic Centralized Acquisition Tool (ECAT), and Medical Master Catalog (MMC) systems
Knowledge of design and validation parameters for ELISA assay development and testing.
