Job Description
  • GDIT is looking for a Network engineer that can:
  • Analyze users requirements, concept of operations documents, and high level Network architectures to develop network requirements specifications
  • Analyze Network requirements and leads network design and development activities
  • Guide users in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies
  • Provide technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology
  • Incorporate new plans, designs and Networks into ongoing operations
  • Develop Network and network architecture and Network design documentation
  • Guide Network development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of Network engineering management plans and Network integration and test plans
  • Interact with the Government regarding Networks Engineering technical considerations and for associated problems, issues or conflicts
  • Be responsible for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the Networks Engineering area of responsibility
  • Coordinate and manage engineering projects
  • Act as lead in defining and executing Networks engineering activities within a project. Provide comprehensive definition of all aspects of Network development from analysis of mission needs to verification of Network performance
  • Ensure efficient delivery of contract capabilities using industry standards and repeatable processes
  • Mitigate risks, controls costs and schedule variance, and effectively manages large scale, integrated projects
  • Review and/or approve Network engineering documentation to ensure that processes and specifications meet Network needs and are accurate, comprehensive, and complete
  • Establish and follow a formal procedure for coordinating Network integration activities among multiple teams, ensuring complete coverage of all interfaces
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain (LAN, MAN, WAN, Wireless) network infrastructure
  • Conduct network modeling and analysis to construct a reliable, high-performance integrated network
  • Program routers, switches, and other network hardware
  • Configure DNS servers and appliances
  • Maintain firewall and manage security related to hacking
  • Define, document, and enforce system standards and operating procedures
  • Design, recommend and implement new solutions to improve the resilience of network operations
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problems and outages
  • Engage in data network fault investigations
  • Secure network systems with policies that define and monitor access
  • Report network operation status based on project management and priority information
  • Implement, configure and optimize QoS, BGP, OSFP, and VoIP
  • Analyzing network configurations
  • Troubleshooting the network and supporting operations
  • Evaluating technical specifications for interoperability
  • Perform Service benchmarking
  • Assisting in the definition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the network and services.
  • Design/implement/migrate new application delivery solutions and web technologies
  • Keep project stakeholders abreast of updates and issues
  • Configure and install various network devices and services
  • Monitor network performance and resource utilization, trending, capacity planning
  • Use of current and emergent network design principles and protocols
  • Analyze network topologies and traffic and capacity requirements
  • Provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced network personnel


  • Security + Certification
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or higher
  • 10 years of relevant work experience and a bachelors degree from an accredited university. 
  • A postgraduate degree from an accredited university may substitute for 6 years of experience.
  • Four (4) years’ experience (in addition to minimum experience requirements) to be substituted for a Bachelors degree.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting, managing and monitoring the health of routers and switches;
  • Experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting network systems, switching, and routing protocol standards such as: TCP/IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, SDN, 802.1x. IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, QoS)
  • Experience managing and troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in a large multi-site environment
  • Experience using network management and analysis tools such as SNMP probes, network taps, and traffic analyzers
  • Experience documenting network topology using Visio
  • Creating and documenting processes and creating work instructions
  • Experience with supporting teleworkers and remote access technologies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience utilizing Remedy ITSM system, IBM NetCool and/or Solarwinds NMS products
  • Experience creating scripts to automate routine administration tasks
  • Experience with network security, including firewall, IDS/IPS, VPN, and vulnerability remediation
  • Familiarity with various network manufactures including VoIP, LANs, WANs, WLANs to include Cisco Routers, Switches and Firewalls Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, IP bridges
  • Solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP model
  • Ability to set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, Riverbed and F5 devices
  • Work well independently or as a senior network SME
  • Provides leadership and/or direction and/or supervision to lower level employees and teams
  • Accountable to lead and guide the completion of major programs and projects
  • Fluency with the following tools: Fluke, Wireshark, Riverbed, HPNA, Netbrain
