Job Description

GDIT is seeking Database Administrators at multiple levels to support a $100M+  US Navy program that provides full spectrum Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) technical support to the warfighter in the Continental United States (CONUS), Outside the Continental United States (OCONUS), and in hazardous areas. These critical C5ISR solutions will support a broad range of Department of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD customers, including joint forces commands and disaster recovery/first responders.

In support of this program, GDIT will perform and provide computer systems engineering services to perform tasks in support of assigned Distance Learning (DL) related technologies and systems including Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) support. 

Program tasking includes provisioning of infrastructure (hardware, software, and cloud services), infrastructure operational support, content development and training, software development, maintenance and enhancement, and some Help Desk support. The GDIT team will supply a full range of system capabilities to include all infrastructure and unique implementation elements. Additionally, the team will develop knowledge sharing strategies and techniques, and deploy various custom systems, that will support distance education and training content, and instructor led training, and producing professional training.

Duties of the Database Administrator may include, but not be limited to the following (at varying levels of difficulty depending on level of position): 

- Support the maintenance and following of a Configuration Management Plan (CMP) that may include a database encompassing a complete list of system assets for tracking, maintaining, validating, and auditing all system components.
-  Maintain databases that track the following functions: Security, HD, infrastructure, systems, and subsystems.
-  Conduct database administration to include ad-hoc, custom, canned reporting, data synchronization, log review management, performance monitoring, and database health optimization.
-  Document all current database specifications including descriptions of the organization of the database structure, field tables, storage requirements, and record linkages.
-  Maintain databases within an application area while working individually or coordinating database development as part of a team.
- Administer, test, and implement computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems. 
- Coordinate changes to computer databases. Identify, investigate, and resolve database performance issues, database capacity, and database scalability. 
- May plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases.
- Levels

  • A senior level person typically works on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program and performs all functional duties independently. A senior level person may oversee the efforts of less senior staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
  • A journeyman level person typically performs all functional duties independently.
  • A junior level person is responsible for assisting more senior positions and/or performing functional duties under the oversight of more senior positions.

REQUIRED CLEARANCE/EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Clearance – Active Secret
  • Education
    • A senior level person has at least ten (10) years of experience and a master’s degree, or a qualifying substitution, if identified.
      • Bachelors degree plus four (4) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor categories; required experience may be substituted for a Masters degree.
      • Six (6) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor categories; required experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree.
      • Associate degree plus four (4) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor categories; required experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree.
    • A journeyman level person within a labor category has three (3) or more years of experience and a bachelor’s degree or a qualifying substitution, if identified.
      • Six (6) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor categories; required experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree.
      • Associate degree plus four (4) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor categories; required experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree.
    • A junior level person within a labor category has less than three (3) years of experience and a bachelor’s degree or a qualifying substitution, if identified.
      • Six (6) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor categories; required experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree.
      • Associate degree plus four (4) years of additional work experience related to the applicable labor categories; required experience may be substituted for a bachelors degree.
  • Database Administration experience, preferably within a DoD program environment.
    • For a senior level position at least 10 years of experience in Database Administration.
    • For a journeyman level position at least 3 years of experience in Database Administration.
    • For a junior level position less than 3 years of experience in Database Administration.
  • Levels for experience below
    • A senior level person may oversee the efforts of less senior staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.
    • A journeyman level person typically performs all functional duties independently.
    • A junior level person is responsible for assisting more senior positions and/or performing functional duties under the oversight of more senior positions.
  • Administering, testing, and implementing computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems. 
  • Coordinating changes to computer databases. 
  • Identifying, investigating, and resolving database performance issues, database capacity, and database scalability. 
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard computer databases.
  • Design strategies for enterprise databases, data warehouse systems, and   multidimensional networks is required for a senior level position.
  • Set standards for database operations, programming, query processes, and security. 
  • Model, design, and construct large relational databases or data warehouses.
  • Create and optimize data models for warehouse infrastructure and workflow.
  • Integrate new systems with existing warehouse structure and refine system performance and functionality.

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

-  Be able to administer, test, and implement computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems. 
-  Be able to coordinate changes to computer databases. Identify, investigate, and resolve database performance issues, database capacity, and database scalability. 
-  Be able to plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases.
-  One or more of the following Database Certifications: Microsoft SQL, IBM, Oracle
-  Experience with systems administration support for large-scale environments.
-  Experience installing and configuring Oracle databases
-  Experience installing and configuring Microsoft SQL database

-  Experience conducting database administration to include ad-hoc, custom, canned reporting, data synchronization, log review management, performance monitoring, and database health optimization.
-  Demonstrated innovative thinking and follow through
-  Demonstrated rapid response to customer requests
-  Experience in researching new/emerging technologies

The likely salary range for this position is $87,025 - $145,332, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
