GDIT's Military Health team is hiring an Epidemiologist to support the Naval Medical Forces Atlantic (NMFL) activities in Portsmouth, VA.

As an Epidemiologist supporting NMFL, you will be trusted to work on providing support services leadership and expertise to ensure mission readiness through medical readiness, disease prevention, and health promotion in support of the National Military Strategy.

In this role, a typical day will include:

Initiates and executes research and/or development studies. Analyzes problems and applies statistical techniques to develop healthcare solutions to promote evidence-based decision making.


  • Perform data queries from central Military Health System (MHS) database systems (M2, MDR, etc.) and provide analytical support in evaluating and making recommendations from the data.

  • Leverage statistical analysis and knowledge of statistical software for interpreting large amounts of data.

  • Format and presentation of the data, analysis, evaluations or recommendations will be made for higher headquarters, Military Treatment Facilities, and others as needed.

  • Develop and design strategies to sustain performance, metrics/methodologies and assist with the development of dashboards and suitable benchmarks for comparative measurement.

  • Develop predictive analytics models to assist in the projection of patient populations to support future planning and resource allocations. Model methodology takes into account macroeconomic and demographic trends of served areas to predict future needs utilizing available data. These projections can be utilized for predicting future patient needs.

  • Research and analyze purchased‐care treatment options and establish metrics for evaluating health systems.

  • Generate reports on the health systems directly competing with the MHS for treating TRICARE beneficiaries and analyze the impact of changes in Military Treatment Facility admittance policies on identified purchased‐care systems. Utilize mathematical models as needed to predict how leadership would react to changes in admittance policies and care at nonmilitary treatment facilities.

  • Utilize and support the development of available Course of Action (CoA) simulation tools to support quantitative decision making for Military Health planning.

  • Analyze the treatment costs between Military Treatment Facilities and purchased‐care health systems and develop detailed reports showing cost comparisons between facilities, patient populations, and for individual departments.


  • Master's in Epidemiology, Data Science, Statistics, or a related Health Analytics degree

  • 5+ years’ experience initiating and executing scientific research and/or development studies required

  • 3+ years of experience working with Military Health data and data systems.

  • Advanced knowledge and expertise in the use of MS Office programs (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and statistical and data analytic programs such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and QlikView.

  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance.


  • PhD Preferred

  • 8+ years of experience initiating and executing scientific research and/or development studies

  • Active DoD Secret clearance strongly preferred
