We are seeking a Network Engineer to join the National Institute of Health (NIH) Center for Information Technology.  In this role you will support world-class biomedical research at NIH by delivering Information Technology services and products that ensure NIH scientists and administrative staff receive the quality IT support.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Responding to customer incidents and troubleshooting outages
  • Provide dedicated operational support for the NIH facilities network
  • Act as an escalation point for junior staff for issues.
  • Work as part of a 24x7 on call rotation in support of incidents.
  • Implement network infrastructure components for new locations.
  • Configurate and implement new VLANs, BVI, port channels, and other advanced network components
  • Deploying/upgrading new network devices
  • Update diagrams and inventory information as part of maintenances
  • Leverages monitoring and automation tools for proactive improvements to the network


  • BS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of experience with Network Engineering using Cisco products
  • CCNA Certification or higher
  • Able to lift/move heavy network equipment.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain NIH Clearance / Public Trust


  • Experience with Wireless Infrastructure / 802.1x
  • CCNP or higher
  • Network strategic planning, solutions design, capacity planning, and oversight of large-scale multi-vendor network
