GDIT is seeking an Animal Models Scientist in support of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Bacterial Diseases Branch, in the Wound Infections Department (WID). The mission of this department is to defeat combat related wound infections and research efforts are focused delivering novel solutions as prophylactics and/or treatments for combating Multidrug-resistant (MDR) infections.Duties include, but not limited to:
  • Serve as a technical expert in microbial pathogenesis, animal model development and wound infection pathogenesis.
  • Serve as a technical expert to investigate microbial colonization and explore novel methods to mitigate infection development.
  • Contribute to the development of research protocols and grant proposals and in the conduct of research related to trauma‐related infections.
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook in which accurate and complete records of laboratory work in accordance with contract requirements to include modifications.
  • Follow laboratory SOP’s and specific written experimental protocols as well as oral instructions in performing assigned experimental work
  • Submit reports and data summaries as requested and prepare research results for presentation and publication in the scientific literature.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety standards and other applicable regulations and guidelines which may include medical surveillance.
  • Attend seminars, scientific conferences, and meetings.
  • Assist in the monitoring of supplies and preparing supply requests for approval.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D., DVM or MS in Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other related scientific field.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: animal models and protocol management, surgical procedures and general knowledge about therapeutics development approaches
