General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a Systems Engineering Managerto lead a team of skilled engineers and systems administrators supporting a Windows Server environment, a Cisco network infrastructure, virtualization platforms on Citrix and VMWare, storage systems and endpoint engineering. This individual must be a forward thinker who can proactively plan, multitask, and possesses excellent organizational and communication skills. The position is in support of GDIT’s contract with the Administrative Office of United States Courts – Administrative Office Technology Office (AOUSC-AOTO) in Washington DC.
The successful candidate must have experience leading large infrastructure teams with the responsibility of supporting multiple technical areas in large or government organizations. The candidate must have strong problem solving skills, technical leadership, and excellent communication skills. The candidate must also have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The position is part of the AOTO User Technology Integration Division managing engineers, systems administrators, subject matter experts (SME) and reporting to the Senior Program Director. Responsibilities for this position include:
Provide leadership across server infrastructure, routers/switches, endpoint engineering, storage, unified communications and Tier 2-3 service desk.
Proactively communicate infrastructure status with stakeholders.
Serve as escalation support for issues that cannot be resolved by Tier One and Two.
Manage problem records and change request process.
Work directly with client to address day to day tasks and issues.
Review systems health check reports on weekly/bi-weekly/monthly basis.
Conduct regular client meetings to provide update on projects, tasks and problem resolution.
Work with Project Managers and Technical SME’s across various engineering, operations, and security projects to ensure smooth transition from a project to an operational supported product.
Review installation and configuration procedures as well as contribute to and maintain system standards.
Provides problem and incident resolution, including dealing with software and hardware vendor for technical support.
Create strategies to improve current processes to resolve recurring problems or enhance existing solutions with proper documentation.
Assist/mentor junior level technicians, specialists, and engineers in their activities.
Conduct administrative duties – approve timecards, backfill open positions, onboard new engineers and conduct staff performance reviews.
Eleven (11) years of progressive Information Technology (IT) experience including at least 6 years supporting Windows environment
Prior experience in leading large infrastructure teams supporting multiple technical areas
Experience working as a part of a large team and working directly with customers. Experience coordinating and overseeing the implementation of security projects.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Excellent soft skills including a mastery of customer service – theory and execution.
Extensive experience with enterprise infrastructure technologies. This includes the interaction of servers, networking, virtualization, applications, and data center technologies and their dependancies.
Experience managing multi-domain active directory environment, knowledge in administering Active Directory replication and creating/modifying GPO’s, DNS, DHCP and Windows scripting.
Experience utilizing endpoint management technologies for centrally managing computing devices
Knowledge of System Monitoring tools (Preferably SolarWinds/Splunk)
Knowledge of Microsoft products such as O365, SharePoint and Exchange
Experience in documenting processes and creating work instructions
Knowledge of general management and auditing techniques for identifying problems, gathering and analyzing pertinent information, forming conclusions, developing solutions and implementing plans consistent with management goals.
Experience managing incidents and tasks in an enterprise ticketing system
Knowledge of Project Management concepts (Waterfall and Agile methods) and tools (MS Project and SharePoint)
Basic knowledge deploying and managing VDI environments using VMWare Horizon and/or Citrix XenDesktop.
Experience migrating, deploying, and managing applications and servers in a commercial cloud infrastruture
Experince implementing desktop and server technology following industry best practices
Basic troubleshooting skills for LINUX, Macintosh, and Microsoft Windows operating systems
§ Basic knowledge of concepts for Mobile Device Management (MDM)
Experience creating and executing Disater Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity plans
Experience implementing and overseeing the remediation of security standards using NIST or CIS framework
Knowledge and experience applying risk management framework for IT Security
One of the following certifications: MCSA/MCSE, Security+, CISSP, or equivalent
ITIL Foundation Certification preferred
