And our work depends on a SYSTEMS ENGINEER SENIOR joining our team to support Airborne Advanced Tactical Datalink (ATDL) Engineering, Test & Evaluation activities at Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific in San Diego, CA.

Job Description Summary:

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with Tactical Software Defined Radio (SDR) risk assessment and risk management in the implementation of Best Manufacturing Practices (BMP) and reliability improvement efforts. Experience will include Tactical SDR System Installation/Integration planning; performing Risk Assessments both Shallow and Deep Dive (e.g., Maintainability Readiness Assessment (MRA), Technology Readiness Assessment (TRA), etc.); experience with establishing, reviewing, and maintaining project documentation and training in support of CMMI capability and maturity level initiatives and an in-depth knowledge of and experience with the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) methodology; and use of automated performance specification tools (e.g., Technical Risk Identification Mitigation System (TRIMS)).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering and Best Manufacturing Practices support to Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) and related Advanced Tactical Data Link programs.
  • Provide technical comments or assessments of vendor production, manufacturing readiness and design reviews to ensure the following of industry Best Practices.
  • Conduct detailed failure analysis reviews of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and Problem Reports (PRs), Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause and Corrective Action Analysis (RCCA). 
  • Support Mission Readiness Reviews and ensure operator and mission needs are translated in specifications, Concepts of Operation (CONOPS).
  • Provide systems engineering expertise in Error Detection; Correction Coding; RF signal processing.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics and/or eight (8) years technical experience at the systems level in DOD tactical communication systems projects.
  • Proficient computer skills using MS Office, Microsoft Teams / WebEx for attending virtual meetings
  • Ability to work in a remote environment
  • Active Secret clearance (with ability to obtain Top Secret)
  • Ability to obtain NIWC Pacific CAC site access card
  • Pursuant to a customer requirement, this position is contingent on providing proof of COVID-19 vaccination or submitting to regular COVID-19 testing.
