GDIT has an opportunity for a Scientist 3 position supporting research, diagnostics, and surveillance activities for a prospective client with the CDC in Atlanta GA. In this role you will be required to perform routine and non-routine laboratory tasks including study design, method development, and ongoing execution of diagnostics and surveillance methods.
As a senior scientific staff member, you will be expected to leverage subject matter expertise to identify new and enhance existing methods of study from conceptualization through development and delivery of fully validated methods for pathogen identification, characterization, and propagation used in infectious disease diagnosis and surveillance.
In conjunction with other staff and technical advisors, you will be expected to: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in methods and processes. You will be expected to stay up to date with current and emerging scientific trends relevant to your job functions and advise clients on relevant advancements that may benefit their objections. You should be comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic environment while able to manage multiple and sometimes competing priorities. The position is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Initiates and executes scientific research and/or development studies.
BS degree and 8 yrs experience in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, bioinformatics, immunology or related discipline (or equivalent in education and experience).
Broad subject matter expertise and hands on experience in isolation, propagation and characterization of viral or bacterial strains using methods and techniques from at least two of the following disciplines, including biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, microbiology, virology, immunology or related disciplines.
Track record of successful execution of scientific inquiry including experimental design, data analysis, documentation, and reporting/communication of outcomes demonstrated via publication of efforts through peer reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences
PhD Degree and 2+ years of experience in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, immunology or related discipline and 3+ years of work experience (or equivalent in education and experience).
Track record of scientific publication on topics related to diagnostics and surveillance of infectious disease.
Demonstrated expertise and experience in developing innovative approaches for isolation, propagation and characterization of viral or bacterial strains using methods and techniques from one or more of the following disciplines, including biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, microbiology, virology, immunology or related disciplines.
Experience working in BSL2 or higher laboratory including use of appropriate aseptic techniques
Working knowledge of laboratory and safety regulations including CLIA, ISO, and/or OSHA standards
