At GDIT, people are our differentiator. We are seeking a Medical Record Abstractor to join our team supporting the Clinical Data Abstraction Center (CDAC) contract in York, Pa.

As a Medical Record Abstractor on the CDAC contract, you will be trusted to utilize your vast medical record terminology and healthcare experience to collect disease-specific information from acute care medical records in support of several federal institutions including the Center for Medicare Services (CMS), Agency for Healthcare Research (AHRQ), and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). You will be part of a 100+ member team supporting the CDAC.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Review medical records and other source documents and collect clinical data according to specifications and guidelines provided by the customer. 

  • Data collected may include disease-specific data elements (Sepsis and other infections and Patient Safety measures), laboratory documentation, and medications.

  • Accurately enter data into abstraction software using a personal computer, keyboard and/or mouse. Must have reliable home internet.

  • Follow all established processes and procedures.

  • Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records and Protected Health Information (PHI).

  • Consistently meet or exceed productivity and accuracy standards established by the customer and/or the Company.

  • Consistently meet attendance standards established by the Company.

  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Position is currently remote due to Covid-19, but candidates must be able to commute to York, Pa office as needed for technical assistance and training activities.


  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent, plus additional technical training in the review of medical records; pertinent. education/certification may substitute for work experience.

  • At least one (1) year of experience in work, involving hospital medical records review or equivalent experience in similar discipline.

  • Knowledge of Medical Record Terminology.

  • Basic understanding of computers and applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook.

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen to be considered for this position.

  • Must reside within commuting distance of 2555 Kingston Rd, York, PA


  • Associates degree, Medical Assistant, or LPN license preferred.

  • Two or more years of experience of hospital medical records review or equivalent.

  • Experience in work involving hospital medical records review is preferred.

  • Remote work experience preferred.
