This position supports the program’s on-premise Linux Systems Engineering Team to provide quality cost-effective solutions to the client. Various levels of expertise are needed to support a sophisticated enterprise environment as the data center support infrastructure service provider for Linux systems.
The Jr Linux System Engineer will:
Provide FTE support for Infrastructure services support specifically for Linux RedHat/CentOS 6, 7 and 8 systems, during core hours of 6am – 6pm
Provision, build and maintain on premise physical and virtual systems to support customer and team initiatives
Respond to customer requested items such as: system access, additional storage allocation, implementation of STIG findings, etc.
Utilize Ansible Tower to implement customer requests so as to adhere to team configuration management settings provided by Sr Engineers.
Be actively engaged in problem solving of customer trouble tickets resulting in a low meantime to resolution of incidents.
Monitor and analyze system performance, such as server load and resource usage
Support accreditation efforts as needed by implementing hardening requirements and or participating in test events
Work with other teams and service providers as needed to support customer requests or agency initiatives
Participate in special projects as required
Develop and maintain documentation such as SOPs on existing and new projects
Support quarterly maintenance events to implement required system level patching, and resolution of security errata
Participate in on-call after hours support rotation
3+ years of related systems administration experience
Bachelors Degree in Computer Programming, Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
Experience working within Linux distributions such as RedHat, Ubuntu, CentOS
Experience with RedHat Satellite and Ansible Tower
Experience with scripting (reading and editing if not authoring)
Knowledge of network technologies, common infrastructure components, load balancers, firewalls, virtual and physical infrastructure design
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, database and other office software
Must possess excellent time management skills and the ability to work unsupervised
