Job Description

Position Overview:

GDIT is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Inspector to join our team. The candidate will inspect mechanical components, assemblies, and finished products. The goal is to ensure they meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards. This role requires attention to detail, proficiency with inspection tools, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed inspections of incoming, in-process, and final mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, dial indicators, height gauges, optical comparators, and CMMs to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications, including GD&T.
  • Conduct visual inspections to identify defects in workmanship and adherence to standards.
  • Document inspection results and generate detailed reports.
  • Communicate effectively with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection processes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED
  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Proven experience in mechanical inspection, quality control, or a related field.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • NDT (VT, PT, MT) experience a plus.
  • Machinist experience is highly valued.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $26.56 - $35.94. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
