GDIT has an immediate opening for a Naval Aviation Acquisition Senior Subject Matter Expert with extensive experience in executing complex programmatic and technical support efforts within the Naval Aviation Enterprise, who can also deliver credible and compelling instruction on historical lessons learned over the history of Naval Aviation acquisition to experienced Program Managers (and Deputy Program Managers) that are entering their command tours.  Expertise will also be provided in response to specific tasking from the ASN(RDA) office. Additionally, as Deputy Program Manager for the contract, the candidate will interact with senior ASN(RDA) personnel, specifically the Principal Military Deputy (PMD), the Principal Civilian Deputy (PCD) and the Director, Acquisition Talent Management (DATM) along with various senior personnel from other Navy acquisition activities.

The candidate will join a team of senior professionals as a Naval Aviation Acquisition Senior Subject Matter Expert supporting training of Navy and Marine Corps Acquisition Professionals at the Navy’s ASN/RDA Program Manager War Room complex.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and update the Naval Aviation War Room, as well as the F/A-18 Super Hornet and Cybersecurity modules of the Program Manager’s War Room, that are designed to address the unique challenges of aviation programs and the responsibilities of the Program Manager, Deputy Program Manager, and their staff.  The Naval Aviation room addresses the challenges of developing sensors, weapons, and other naval aircraft systems

  • Provide a detailed look at how naval aircraft are constructed, converted, and modernized, including studies of past and contemporary aircraft that acquisition professionals may find useful in their own programs.  The F/A-18 Super Hornet module delves into the details of the program to help PMs/DPMs identify successful practices that may be able to be applied to their own programs. The Cybersecurity module provides and overview of the complexity and importance of this vital technical capability that must be built into future systems upfront, vice legacy programs trying to “Bolt On” cybersecurity after the architecture had been developed

  • Maintain and update the formal courses for the above rooms, by updating Instructor Guides and Learning Guides, as required. Present the Aviation War Room, and other War Rooms in the complex for both formal courses of instruction, and for informal visits and information gathering sessions by Senior Navy leaders

  • Provide consulting services to Senior Navy Leaders, PMs/DPMs and their teams

  • Conduct pre-course, post-course correspondence and eDACM training authorization and tracking functions for the students that attend the formal course of instruction

Desired: Master’s Degree or higher in Engineering, Business, or other related technical fields.

Required: The Aviation WR and FA-18 Super Hornet module focus on naval aircraft and naval aviation-related activities, including the roles of PMs/DPMs and their staff.  Formal courses of instruction are provided to a target audience of PMs/DPMs.  We include lessons from major modernization efforts in addition to those of both successful and unsuccessful aircraft acquisition programs, including unmanned aircraft.  Accordingly, we are seeking either a retired Navy Aviation Engineering Duty Officer, a Navy Acquisition Professional/Unrestricted Line Officer, Marine Corps Aviation Acquisition Officer, or former GS-15 (or equivalent) Navy or Marine Corps government civilian with a minimum of 15 years of experience in Major Aviation Systems Program Management and/or related technical support functions who has completed a Program Manager Command, Naval Aviation Warfare Center command, Fleet Readiness Center Command, or Principal Deputy Program Manager tour.
