Provides ongoing support for the functionality and efficiency of computer networks (LAN/WAN). Designs, installs, maintains and coordinates the use of network systems. Monitors and manages data traffic/network performance and controls network resource performance to ensure high-quality transmission. Troubleshoots and resolves problems to ensure quality transmission service on the network. Enforces security policies. Trains users, maintains, creates and deletes user accounts. Develops and enhances processes and technical documentation, creates back-up procedures, test plans, and reports.

  • Provides expert level technical solutions in the management of software, hardware, configurations, and architectures, including  network control software, routers, switches, lines, modems, adapters and servers.
  • Critically evaluates existing network systems and planning long-term strategies to ensure network capacity meets current and future network requirements under minimal supervision. 
  • Installs, supports and/or maintains LANs and/or WANs; evaluates and recommends networking product and software upgrades with independent judgement and minimum supervision. May provide guidance to less-experienced personnel. 
  • Designs, installs and maintains the network system for multiple classifications and coordinates their use with independent judgement and minimum supervision.
  • Closely monitors network performance. Independently troubleshoots and resolves complex problems to ensure quality transmission service on the network.
  • Maintains operating efficiency and stability, ensure the security and integrity of all systems and data, and provides technical solutions to outages and other issues.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities may include: Managing projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision. Coaching and reviewing the work of lower level professionals. Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.

Required Certification:

  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II or Higher. Ex: (Security+CE)


  • One of the following: CCNA Collaboration, CCNA

Required education and or experience:

BA/BS (or equivalent experience) and 5+ years of experience.

Recommended Certifications: Network+ or equivalent
