GDIT is looking for an Oracle Database Administrator to join our team supporting the USPS in Raleigh, NC.

The Database Specialist, Principal position is a very senior level one requiring that successful candidates perform in a technical leadership role in the planning, development, implementation, maintenance and support of a centralized organization for total support of the Oracle database environment executing national production applications on the USPS' Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure throughout the United States. From the Raleigh support facility, a dedicated staff is required to perform all activities associated with this large, complex and widely distributed environment.
This position will require technical specialists considered experts in their field. Successful candidates will be required to lead the development of standards and procedures, both operational and functional
The US Postal Service must provide the above service to Postal customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Work schedules will vary based upon the needs of the PostaI Service. Candidates will be sought to support different shifts to enable 24x7 support. Candidates may be required to carry a phone and be on call. This individual will be expected to work independently or semi-independently with a minimum of guidance or direction.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
This position requires expert ability to support and maintain Oracle RDBMS products and services and support USPS applications that execute under them in a large, complex and widely distributed UNIX and Microsoft Windows operating system environment.
Development and maintenance of project plans in accordance with US Postal Service standards will be required. Weekly status reporting will be required. Perform other duties in support of the organizations mission as directed by FCSC/DSS management.
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written are required. Excellent people skills, an enthusiastic can do attitude, willingness to do what it takes to get the job done, travel and flexibility are all required attributes of successful candidates for this position. Interaction with other Postal organizations and individuals, such as developers and end users, will be necessary in order to understand applications and resolve problems.
Seven years of Oracle experience is required
Expert ability to support Oracle RDBMS products and services.
Expert ability to upgrade, install and maintain Oracle RDBMS products and services.
Expert ability to support and maintain an efficient Oracle RDBMS production environment.
Expert ability to diagnose and resolve complex problems in an Oracle RDBMS environment.
Excellent ability to develop and implement procedures that support, maintain and enhance the Oracle RDBMS environment.
Excellent ability to develop and implement procedures that enable potential problem detection and avoidance, including disaster recovery planning and implementation.
Excellent ability to perform logical and physical data base design (entity relationship modeling/CASE methodology and CASE tools).
Strong working knowledge, experience and ability with Microsoft NT server operating system.
Willingness to work long and varied work schedules required by this large, diverse and complex production environment.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Excellent project management experience
Additional Desired Qualifications
Experience with database monitoring tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager and/or
Strong experience with Microsoft Access, Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience with the design of three-tier architecture.
Experience with Oracle stored procedure programming (Oracle PL/SQL).
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or associated discipline preferred and a minimum of 12 years of Oracle experience.
The security clearance for this program requires the selected candidate to have resided in the US for the past five years. The selected candidate cannot have left the country for longer than 90 consecutive days and no more than 180 cumulative days.
