GDIT is seeking a Biochemist in support of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) Bacterial Diseases Branch, in the Wound Infections Department (WID). The mission of this department is to defeat combat related wound infections and research efforts are focused delivering novel solutions as prophylactics and/or treatments for combating Multidrug-resistant (MDR) infections.Duties include, but not limited to:
Principal investigator with scientific and technical skills for the research and development of novel medical countermeasures against wound infections.
Design and perform research on biochemical based drug design for microbial pathogens of military relevance and animal testing
Develop and recommend drug candidates for specific targets on ESKAPEE pathogens (Enterococcus species, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, and Escherichia coli) for antimicrobial development and approval by the team lead and department chief.
Draft grant proposals for submission and approval by the department chief and research steering.
Conduct research on projects associated with antimicrobial development such as protein expression and purification, MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration experiments, animal modeling, virtual modeling of drugs bound to target proteins, etc.
Serve as technical expert in the expression and purification of bacterial and host proteins.
Draft research protocols and grant proposals for scientific review and conduct the approved research.
Observe, instruct, and validate technician performance.
Keep accurate and complete records of research done in accordance with contract requirements to include modifications.
Submit reports and data summaries as requested and prepare research results for presentation and publication in the scientific literature.
Comply with occupational health and safety standards and other applicable regulations and guidelines which may include medical surveillance.
Attend and participate in seminars, scientific conferences, and meetings.
MD or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other related scientific field.
Experience in at least one of the following areas: druggable target identification, cloning, enzymology, protein characterization and protein chemistry
