GDIT is hiring a Senior Biostatistician/Epidemiologist to provide support to the Epidemiology Task Force: Ongoing COVID-19 Response Support. Due to the recent events caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDC Epidemiology Task Force is responsible for identifying and tracking COVID-19 cases, spread and containment. The COVID-19 Epidemiology Task Force Response is critical to accomplishing the CDC’s mission and goals during the COVID-19 pandemic. This position will give support across several teams within the task force.

Epidemiology and statistics support is needed as COVID-19 surveillance and research efforts expand. Support is required in emergency response areas of epidemiology, communication, and field support. A Senior Statistician has the necessary education and work experiences to provide support to the task force on emergency response areas of epidemiology, data analytics (coding and practice), and statistical methods (modeling, regression, survival analysis, multivariate analysis) at an expert level.

This position is 100% remote working.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide technical oversight and coordinate collection, management, and analysis of data from COVID-19 surveillance systems
  • Develop, revise, and review study protocols, questionnaires, and other data collection forms
  • Provide quality assurance guidance to technical and program staff to ensure data integrity including preparing program guidelines to increase consistency, performing necessary data checks and managing datasets and data documentation
  • Maintain relevant IRB approvals for research with human subjects at CDC and provide technical support for approvals at collaborating institutions
  • Liaise with principal investigators, site coordinators, study enrollers, and laboratory personnel; or jurisdictional principal investigators, coordinators and data managers
  • Clean data and develop reports in DCIPHER
  • Write and troubleshoot SAS programs, organize, test, and streamline the surveillance system data components, and create SAS datasets for analyses.
  • Perform descriptive analyses of data for epidemiological studies using SAS or an equivalent package (e.g. R).
  • Collect data from sites using Excel to maintain data dashboards in Power BI
  • Assist with preparation of scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, develop data reports, write programs, and analyze data as needed for reports, abstracts, presentations, and papers.


  • Master's degree, with a concentration in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology or related field
  • 6+ years of work experience in the field
  • Capable of fundamental programming within SAS or R software for data analysis, survey data analysis, and data management


  • CDC experience
  • Experience analyzing large datasets in SAS or R, with no supervision
  • Experience using PowerBI to maintain data dashboards
  • Experience on an outbreak response in any capacity
  • Complex modeling particularly in logistic regression
  • Proven track record with scientific publications
  • Bonus: understanding and practical experience/development of cloud based applications within the public health field for the purposes as a data repository

The likely salary range for this position is $96,000 - $144,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
