Sr. Linux Systems Engineer – Active Top Secret Required
Design, deploy, integrate and maintain Linux technologies to advance the mission as a SENIOR LINUX SYSTEMS ENGINEER with GDIT. Your work in the integration of Linux resources into a primary Windows Infrastructure across all domains will help our clients overcome evolving demands and missions. HOW A SENIOR SYSTEMS ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Maintain and troubleshoot Linux systems on a day-to-day basis.
Ensure system lifecycles are performed (e.g. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS -> 20.04 LTS and so on with OS upgrades).
Integrate Linux Systems (currently, RHEL 7/8 and Ubuntu systems) into a primary Windows environment (workstations & servers) where authentication, authorization, and accounting actives are controlled by Active Directory with PKI certificates and Single Sign On.
Provide administrative access based on group security, applied with least privilege and other permission access management techniques.
Ensure patches are maintained across a diverse Linux environment (e.g. Ubuntu, RHEL7/8, CentOS, etc.) in a heavily automated manner, where possible.
Configure new Linux systems for customer use and ensuring that initial configurations meet required enterprise baselines & controls (e.g. proper agents installed, proper configs, etc.).
Ensure that already-provisioned Linux systems are kept in compliance with baseline requirements & ever-changing enterprise policy (e.g. equivalent to Group Policy in the Windows realm for ongoing compliance updates).
Develop an operating system lifecycle plan with integration of DoD STIGs and other recommended security standards.
Integrate Linux systems with other enterprise tooling (e.g. ACAS, Splunk, SolarWinds, Backup systems, etc.).
Monitor all solutions integrated via a centralized alerting system (Solarwinds).
Certify log management and forwarding to a single repository (Splunk).
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:
Education: BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or other related scientific or technical discipline required.
Required Experience: 3 – 8 years of relevant experience supporting projects of similar size, scope and complexity. VMWare management/ administration experience. Relevant experience can be substituted for education.
Required Technical Skills: Must be possess or be able to acquire DoD 8140 IAT Level II compliance (CompTIA Security+, etc.) upon hire.
Security Clearance Level: Active Top Secret that has been adjudicated within the last 5 years is required.
Required Skills and Abilities: Highly motivated, self-starter; ability to work alone (90% of work is individual); heavy research and development when necessary.
Location: Washington, District of Columbia; limited telework may be available
