At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Database Architect , you will be trusted to support a mission-critical software systems modernization. This position works under the general guidance of the Project Director and is responsible for designing, planning, implementing data management framework within the boundaries of the GDIT contract. The person in this role will also oversee database administration, data security, and documentation. Additionally, the Data Architect:

  • Analyzes and translates customer business requirements and provides technical solutions, including data streams, models, integration points, transformations, databases, analytics, and data warehouse
  • Develop or review design data models to implement intended business model
  • Develop artifacts to represent key data entities and their relationships
  • Review, update, or create data architecture framework, including metadata, data security, data transfer, modeling, and other reference data sets.
  • Applies knowledge of API (Application Programing Interface) for data services and databases
  • Provides expert knowledge for the design, development, build, analysis, evaluation, installation, and administration of database management systems to include database modeling and design, relational database architecture, non-relational database architecture and procedures, metadata and repository creation and configuration management
  • Designs and implements databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, ETL tasks, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods
  • Prepares system requirements, source analysis and process analyses and design throughout the database implementation
  • Defines database organizations, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation
  • Provides technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment
  • Advises applications development staff and users on data-based solutions to business problems, data architectures, database management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of databases
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
  • Consults with executives and customers to deliver complex database solutions
  • May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals
  • May serve as a team or task lead



  • BA/BS in technology (Computer, Electrical, Electronics), or equivalent
  • 20+ years of combined experience in core database capabilities (e.g., Data modeling, designing, database administration, migration strategies, and database security)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Architect supporting capabilities such as Data Modeling, Designing, Entity-Relationship (ER) diagram development
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator supporting database administration, monitoring, performance tuning, disaster recovery and business continuity
  • Database coding experience in T-SQL, PL/SQL or equivalent
  • Experience with ETL, Batch Processing, and Data Warehousing
  • Experience in analyzing large data sets
  • Demonstrated experience in developing data solutions using AWS, SQL Server, IBM DB2
  • Supervisory or project management experience

The likely salary range for this position is $148,000 - $222,000, this is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary; rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
