GDIT is seeking a Core Network Engineer in support of GDIT's contract with the DISA Joint Service Provider (JSP ETM) located within the Pentagon and surrounding offices. This position will ensure the stability, integrity, and availability of the networking infrastructure and associated services.
The position is involved with full life-cycle maintenance of a network infrastructure which includes incident response, capacity planning, testing, monitoring, performance tuning, enhancements, and integration of new services. The engineer must have the understanding and ability to implement and troubleshoot Cisco, Juniper, and F5 products and services in a production environment using industry best practices.
A successful candidate will be responsible for the health and maintenance of a large, complex networking infrastructure. This includes providing network administration and operational support to more than 8000 networked devices. The engineer will provide comprehensive network administration, security enhancements and remediation, and troubleshooting of network devices such as routers, switches, load balancers, WIFI, and VoIP. This position requires an understanding of best practices pertaining to network security and may require the development, deployment, and integration of network security services. Successful candidates should be able to work both independently and as part of a team. In this role, a typical day will include:
Provide problem and incident resolution, including dealing with software and hardware vendor technical support
Deploy and maintain network hardware, peripherals, services, and settings in accordance with industry standards and project/operational requirements
Perform daily system monitoring; verifies the integrity and availability of networking hardware, services, systems, and key processes; reviews system and application logs
Document and conduct changes during ASI windows
Provide on-call troubleshooting and issue resolution as required
Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
Collaborate with the Security team to identify and remediate application and operating system vulnerabilities
Act as a liaison with other groups to provide information sharing pertaining to the needs of the diverse set of computer users supported by the client as a whole.
Develop scripts and other automation solutions to aid in the completion of migration and integration tasks.
Review problems to understand the root causes of issues and ensure proper fixes are implemented
Provide phone support to users during the time of peak demand as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance
DoD 8570 IAT II Certification
One of the following Networking Certifications - Brocade, Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), Juniper (JNCIA/JNCIS/JNCIP), Aruba
Bachelors’ degree in a related field. Work experience considered in lieu of degree.
5+ years of related experience
Troubleshooting, managing and monitoring the health of Cisco and Juniper routers and switches
Deploying, managing, and troubleshooting network systems, switching, and routing protocol standards such as: TCP/IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, SDN, and 802.1x.
Managing and troubleshooting DNS, DHCP, IPAM, and NTP in a large multi-site environment
Managing Cisco Prime/Junos Space
Network security, including firewall, IDS/IPS, VPN, and vulnerability remediation
Using network management and analysis tools such as SNMP probes, network taps, traffic analyzers and load balancers.
Documenting network topology using Visio
Creating and documenting processes and creating work instructions
Working as a part of a large team and working directly with customers
Hardware troubleshooting experience.
Supporting teleworkers and remote access technologies
Creating scripts to automate routine administration tasks
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong customer service skills
DESIRED SKILLS:
TS/SCI security clearance
Aruba Certification (ACSA and/or ACSP, depending on role)
Experience with NetScout, IBM NetCool and/or Solarwinds NMS products
Experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting load balancers from a L2/L3 perspective
Experience utilizing Remedy ITSM
Experience/knowledge with Aruba networking systems
