Responsibilities

As a Senior RF / Data Links Communications Engineer you will work closely with a team of dedicated multi-disciplined professionals in supporting customer mission objectives. Youll be responsible for working with coworkers, partners, stakeholders and customer representatives to create effective solutions, providing support to organizational Innovation Assessment & Evaluation (IA&E) projects to deliver next-generation technologies across a wide-range of services and emerging capabilities, culminating in the delivery of unparalleled services that enhance customer mission effectiveness.

In this role you will:

  • Provide professional and certified RF network analysis and troubleshooting activities
  • Perform RF network analysis and gather applicable metrics to identify capacity, performance, architecture, and support constraints and problems
  • Develop network engineering approaches and propose network courses of action (COA) to the government
  • Assess current operational architectures and configurations to improve operational effectiveness, system performance, efficiency, information security, and configuration management
  • Identify and document applicable standards and best practices
  • Design, develop, test, and implement suitable RF and network architectures in accordance with applicable Department of Defense (DoD), United States Air Force (USAF), United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), industry guidance, and best practices
  • Collaborate with and take overall government network engineering guidance from the AFSOC Command Network and RF Architect
  • Follow and implement Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS), National Security Agency (NSA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and other applicable security guidance
  • Document and diagram physical and logical architectures, configurations and applicable settings. Produce applicable DoDAF architecture viewpoints in accordance with AFSOF IA&E standards
  • Design and document quality of service (QoS) and other transport management capabilities. Specific operational processes
  • Measure, fix, and validate identified RF networking shortfalls
  • Develop measurable test and success criteria
  • Perform tests to check networks against test and success criteria
  • Document and brief actions and test results to determine if shortfalls have been addressed or fixed
  • Ensure solutions and activities delivered are aligned with the strategy and vision of the organization 
  • Collaborate with teammates on complex problems, and recommend improvements
  • Assist in the deconstruction and interpretation of requirements supporting team projects
  • Engage with stakeholders and supporting teams, and ensure customer expectations, satisfaction, risks and cost are managed appropriately as it relates to your activities
  • Advocate for, and articulate Development, Integration, Testing and product sustainment activities, contributing to processes and outcomes that enhance productivity, reduce cost while providing for evolutionary change to legacy service delivery models with sole purpose of increasing warfighter service availability, resilience, effectiveness and readiness
  • Adhere to standards, policies, protocols, procedures and best practices that truly embody a “Best of Breed” services delivery team
  • Participate in architectural and design discussions as they pertain to Future State, Concepts, and planned or active projects
  • Participating in strategic engagements and events, as required
  • Brief stakeholders on planned and active projects and activities

Youll be critical to executing solutions in support of customer outcomes. Specifically, youll be:

  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest innovations in technology – from new RF and Data Links technology platforms, software and services to cutting edge tools that allow customers and teams to capitalize on efficiencies and deliver cost savings while enabling service expansion through deliberate technology investments that yield transformational capabilities to end-users
  • Lead projects, support milestones and provide for hands-on technical development, integration, and implementation
  • Leading the execution of approved technology-centric strategies while fostering partnerships, and external relationships with other strategic partners to deliver resilient and highly available solutions

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ electronic maintenance in the following areas: Digital/analog signal processing, Communications equipment (VHF, UHF, microwave, fiber-optic), Digital computer systems; Test equipment, RF signal processing, Antennas, RF systems, Primary and secondary power equipment, Cisco TCP/IP networking equipment, CoT Software products
  • 4+ years’ of experience in PC hardware and software management desirable as it relates to RF and Data Link systems
  • 4+ years’ of experience in a Microsoft Windows or Linux environment
  • DoD 8570.01 IAT level II certification required; Sec+ CE required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Specific experience with a majority of the following required:
    - Standard Airborne BLoS Broadband (AB2) and narrowband (ABN) gateway architectures for voice, video, and C2 IP based services
    - Standard Airborne LoS Broadband (ALB) and narrowband (ALN) gateway architectures for voice, video, and C2 IP based services
    - Standard airborne and terrestrial, roll-on, roll-off and permanent, sensor payload, intelligence systems, and communications systems network architectures. This includes sensor, warning, and communications networks and aircraft interface architectures. Examples include systems such as the Joint Threat Warning System (JTWS) Air system, TRICS, SLED, and MANET solutions
    - Standard aircraft local area network (ALAN), boundary, and external network interface architectures. This includes analyzing and developing standard unclassified and classified networks for AFSOC aircraft
    - Standard air-to-air and air-to-ground RF network architectures and plans
    - Standard terrestrial, wireless, and RF base area network (BAN) architectures
    - Standard deployable terrestrial and RF C2 node architectures
    - Software defined network for aircraft, ground vehicles, and C2 nodes
    - Must be knowledgeable in the management of Air Force equipment assets
    - Must be able to effectively conduct and interpret tests, and troubleshoot solutions
    - Must be able to solder and fabricate RF coax cables and multi-conductor cables
  • Knowledge and experience working with Cisco routing and switching platforms is desirable
  • Ability to manage multiple issues and user problem reports to best determine resolution priority, as required to complete assigned tasks
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to create and maintain systems related documentation
  • Ability to assemble equipment racks
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills

Security Requirements

  • Must have a SECRET clearance with the ability to obtain an SCI (TS/SCI)

Physical Demands

  • Lift over 35 LBS

Work Environment

  • Work environment is either remote teleworking or administrative office
  • Possible TDY’s to CONUS and OCONUS environments

Education Requirements

  • BS or equivalent training, plus at least 5 years’ of experience supporting single-channel and multi-channel radio systems
