Research Coordinator

Join General Dynamics IT and be a part of the team of men and women that solve some of the world's most complex technical challenges. The Naval Research Lab Marine Meteorology Division (NRL MMD) located in Monterey, CA is looking for a person to fill the position of Research Coordinator to complete the work below. This work will be performed on an hourly, casual basis. Secret security clearance required.

The NRL Marine Meteorology Division’s mission is to better understand the atmosphere, the coupled environment, and their mission impacts so that they can be better simulated, better predicted, and better assist the warfighter to make decisions.

The candidate shall assist in monitoring the progress and integration of weather and aerosol forecast research performed at NRL MMD, such as the Navy Aerosol Analysis and Prediction System (NAAPS), the Automated Tropical Cyclone Forecasting System (ATCF), and the Coupled Ocean/Atmosphere Mesoscale Prediction System Operating System (COAMPS-OS). The candidate will ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities; act as the primary point of contact for internal research staff and as the principle operational liaison for other research organizations and funding agencies. The candidate will also evaluate the projection and integration of research and projects onto the overall NRL MMD Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RTD&E) roadmap.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum four years of experience in research program coordination in a science or military related field.
  • Familiarity with marine meteorology and oceanography research-based principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of issues relating to Office of Navy Research or similar funding agency.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the complexity of issues relating to NRL MMD mission and values.
  • Excellent program coordination and facilitation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Graduate studies in Meteorology, Physical Oceanography, or similar field.
  • Ability to obtain Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with government funding agencies preferred.
  • Active Secret clearance.
