At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Systems Engineer supporting the customer, you will be trusted to execute multi-faced programs that support dynamic mission sets. In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Engineering, implementing, and maintaining a fault tolerant, highly redundant mission network
  • Providing technical oversight of a project solution, including requirement interpretation and allocation of requirements to technical components
  • Supporting processes to implement requirements
  • Defining internal and external customer IT infrastructure architecture needs and providing solution options to meet those needs, including capacity planning, systems configuration, tuning, monitoring, backups, and hardware and software installations
  • Providing recommendations for end-to-end technical analysis
  • Ensuring technical solutions leverage industry best practices, and designing for security and excellence while minimizing the total cost of ownership


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • Minimum of 15 years related experience or relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    - Experience with multiple OS (Windows, Linux, and OSX)
    - Experience with multiple Hypervisors (HyperV, ESX, and VirtualBox)
    - Knowledge of Cisco OS (iOS, NexusOS)
    - Experience with Windows management (Active Directory, SCOM, and VMM)
    - Familiarity with LAN and WAN deployments
    - Experience with Enterprise Backup Solutions (Microsoft DPM, ArcServe Backup Suite)
    - Knowledge and experience with Sponsor organization
    - Knowledge of Storage Area Networks (SAN), including designing, provisioning, capacity planning, and maintenance
    - Experience building, configuring, and troubleshooting customized forensic workstations
    - Experience in the design, engineering, testing, and implementation of migrating Hyper-V virtual machines from Windows 2008 to Windows 2012 R2 cluster Hyper-V environment
    - Experience providing recommendations to architecture and design reviews
  • Security Clearance Level: Top Secret/SCI with Polygraph
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    - Familiarity with Shell scripting is a plus
    - SQL Server experience and familiarity with Oracle 10g/11g and MySQL is a plus
    - Microsoft Windows 7, 8, 10, 2008R2, 2012, 2016, and System Center experience desired
    - VMware certification and/or MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)
    - Linux, ESX, and OSX experience are a plus
    - Knowledge of various types of forensic software utilized by the Sponsor
    - Experience with HP Servers and HP Blade Chassis
    - Experience with vendors and third party producers

Provides and applies masterful engineering skills to highly complex systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.

Performs continual maintenance and provides masterful engineering solutions for continual and highly complex security, backup and redundancy problems.

Provides guidance for the preparation and maintenance of all documentation for processes and procedures related to engineering projects.

Provides guidance to less-experienced Systems Engineers.

Maintains current knowledge of rapidly changing technology, always on the lookout for new technologies, and works with management to evolve current processes.

May coach and review the work of less-experienced professionals.

May serve as a task or project leader. (Not a people manager)

Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, model formulation, computer architecture analysis and design, and digital systems engineering.

Invents innovative ways to drive production operational efficiency.

Drives scalability and operability of supported systems/infrastructure.

Implements, manages and enhances Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline tools.

Creates, maintains, and reviews Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Desired State Configuration (DSC) and/or Puppet configuration management tools to support the provisioning infrastructure.

Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.

Recognized as a subject matter expert in a specific technology.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS (or equivalent experience), 15+ years of experience
