NSST Windows Systems Administrator

The Navy Navigation Seamanship Ship-handling Training (NSST) systems program is looking for a Windows Systems Engineer with a background in complex systems environments to join their team. The NSST is a computerized bridge simulator that allows Sailors to practice ship handling, navigation, and visual information skills in a controlled environment.

The position resides in Orlando, FL, but you will provide support to the following locations. Travel is required:

• Yokosuka and Sasebo, Japan
• Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii
• Rota, Spain
• San Diego, CA
• Norfolk, VA
• Everett, WA

The Administrator:

• Analyzes requirements and design specifications for functional activities.
• Manages the installation, configuration, and administration of multiple COTS products.
• Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network engineers.
• Sets up administrator and service accounts, applies STIGs to server, maintains security posture of server, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space.
• Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
• Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery.
• Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
• Independently provides technical interpretation and solutions in the management of networks, software, hardware, configurations, and architectures.
• Troubleshoots system hardware and software specific issues.
• Trains end users on the proper use of hardware and software.
• Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
• Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels.
• Ensures workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions.
• Independently ensures data/media recoverability by following a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
• Conducts hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
• Ensures that performance and security of computers meet the needs of network users.
• Applies practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.
• May evaluate existing systems and assist with planning long-term strategies.

Basic Qualifications:

• BA/BS degree: additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• 2+ years of experience providing systems administration with Windows systems
• Ability to achieve Secret Clearance
