Chief Cloud Engineer

GDIT is seeking a Chief Cloud Engineer to join its Intelligence and Homeland Security (IHS) Group. In this role you will work with a team of diverse architects and engineers with backgrounds in PaaS, DevOps, Security, and IaaS operations to spread knowledge and practices. You will be responsible for the engineering and life-cycle management of, mostly cloud-based, platforms to attain a high degree of reliability and security.  The qualified candidate will perform the following tasks:

• Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning
• Builds end-to-end user service-oriented products, testing and integrating them with a mixture of distributed, COTs and custom applications
• Designs, develops, builds and deploys highly scalable, fault-tolerant, elastic and secure cloud based and distributed services
• Works with a variety of cloud-based architectures (public, private and hybrid)
• Integrates external and internal cloud systems with non-cloud on-premise networks, to allow for secure communication between the systems.
• Experience driving discussions with senior government personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
• Provides oversight of the cloud production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health
• Develops architecture and solutions focusing on scalability and extensibility
• Interfaces with DHS engineers/architects regarding architecture standards/guidelines/policies based on needs and anticipated technology advances
• Improve reliability, quality, performance for cloud-hosted applications

• Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve services
• Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding
• Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures
• Coordinates with Cloud providers for issues and support requests
• Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills to interact regularly with high-level customers and other industry representatives to ensure conformance to customer requirements 
• Experience driving discussions with senior government personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management and risk mitigation
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and business owners to provide guidance and recommendations on improving IT infrastructure  

Required Qualifications:

Minimum 20+ years IT experience

IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) 4 certification 

Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or a related field

Completion of one or more of the following certifications is a +:

• SAFe/Agile 5.0 or 5.1
• IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) 4 certification 
• Amazon Web Services (AWS) Solutions Architect
• Comptia Security+, Cloud+
