The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of development, test and production environments.  The selected candidate will work in a team environment to design, build out, document and provide sustainment of environments based on shifting program requirements.   The environments consist of several versions of Red Hat Linux (RHEL) servers, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of corporate applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. DoD Information Assurance experience is a plus specifically in the areas of IAVA and STIG evaluation, application, and management as it applies to Linux.

  • Manage Linux servers through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain Linux servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
  • When performance issues arise, determine the most effective way to increase performance including hardware purchases, server configuration
  • Provide technical support on the operations and administration functions associated with Database and Web Application server configurations.  These include Windows 2012, 2016 and LINUX Servers in this environment.
  • Performs architectural planning activities in the areas of security design and redundant solutions, and presents alternatives to Technical Assistant.
  • Programs, maintains, tests, approves, and deploys existing and new functional requirements to the DBS software and relative data files and databases to support user requirements. 
  • Transitions application programs and/or systems to conform to current coding requirements, including maintenance, programming and/or functional/technical interpretation to support an enterprise framework.
  • Provides software turnover packages QA testing and input into production as specified by the project management system.  The items contained in the package may include data entity diagrams, relationship diagrams, attribute definitions, task messages, screen/report layouts, database scripts and recovery procedures.
  • Performs diagnostic testing and system troubleshooting of components.
  • Performs server and workstation connection, configuration, integration, and testing.
  • Develops test plans, coordinates, and schedules and conducts testing of survey/assessment content, software upgrades, versions, patches, and Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs).
  • Conducts evaluation and testing of mobile technology tools, devices and associated hardware for use of mobile assessments and mobile e-learning.
  • Ensures the procedures, methodologies, and tools specified in Navy SOP’s are successfully implemented.
  • Ensures implemented Computer Software Configuration Items (CSCIs) meet the specified quality requirements.
  • Creates, revises, updates, and maintains the Supplementary Quality Assurance Provisions (SQAP), as defined in the Software Development Plan.
  • Provides Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) at the initial operation site.  OT&E also occurs in a production-like environment to test performance, although actual users will test the functionality as it's used at the conclusion of the test, the release is considered deployed at its initial operational capability (IOC).

Minimum Qualifications (required skills, experience with technology, etc. needed)

•    CompTIA Linux +, or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
•    Experience with building, configuring and deploying various Red Hat distributions.
•    Proven Experience in troubleshooting Red Hat servers.
•    Experience with backups, restores and recovery models on Red Hat servers.

Preferred Qualifications

•    Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business, Engineering or Physical Science
•    Shows initiative and strong work ethic
•    Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Minimum Certifications

DOD IAT Level II certification (CCNA-Security or CSA+ or GICSP or GSEC or Security + ce or SSCP).
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalent certification.

Secret Clearance is required to qualify.
