As a Systems Engineer Advisor your role is to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support the USBICES-X AFRICOM program. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimizing all networked software associated operating systems. The Systems Engineer Advisor will apply approve communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolves issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. 

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Designs and defines system engineering and administration architecture for new or existing computer systems
  • Participates in the upgrading of operating systems and design of systems enhancements.
  • Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements in accordance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Security Requirements Guides (SRGs).
  • Provides input for documentation on new or existing systems.
  • Develops and conducts tests to ensure systems meet documented user requirements.

Operational Management

  • Performs systems administration for infrastructure services such as AD, DNS, DHCP, Print, Exchange, SQL, SCCM, and/or SCSM.
  • Knowledge of the associated hardware, software, and equipment to include Windows Server, LINUX, VMware VSphere and hyper converged systems
  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.
  • Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.
  • Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • May provide system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.
  • May provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of systems engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.
  • This position may be required to complete short-term deployments to AFRICOM AOR.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience.
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
  • BA/BS degree required or equivalent work experience
  • Must meet DOD 8750 requirements and be eligible for IAT level II access upon hire for positions with elevated privileges and must obtain ITIL V4 Foundation within six months of hire. Additional specific certifications may be required, depending on job assignment.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

  • The work is typically performed at client site locations, which requires proper safety precautions; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with firewalls and firewall rule sets
  • Understanding of concepts presented in the VMWare Data Center Virtualization Fundamentals course
  • Understanding of VxRail Manager and best practices
