The Database Engineer should have experience with backend database technologies and backend software development. They will design, develop, code, test, and debug complex new database software applications, or make significant enhancements to existing databases and software. The ideal candidate is a hands-on database engineer with experience designing databases to customer specifications. They must have strong, firsthand technical expertise in a variety of configuration management and software development tools and the proven ability to fashion robust solutions. They must be at ease working in an Agile environment with little supervision. This person should embody a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
Work with a team to analyze existing database applications and tools, and recommend new technologies and methodologies to improve system performance and usability.
Design, develops, tests, debugs, and deploys new software tools that extend or replace existing capabilities.
Advise hardware engineers on machine characteristics that affect software systems, such as storage capacity, processing speed, and input/output requirements and works with them to resolve incompatibilities.
Write and update technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, training materials, processes and procedures.
Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, data scientists, analysts, project managers and other engineering groups.
Provide ongoing maintenance, support, and enhancements in existing systems and platforms.
Troubleshoots complex problems and provide customer support for software systems and application issues in a production environment
Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Work alongside other engineers on the team to sustain and advance our organization’s capabilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and work/military experience.
Demonstrated hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL databases, PGAdmin, and the software that interacts with the database
Write and maintain database programs to ensure they can handle the flow of traffic and the amount of data being stored in the database.
Design new data models and databases based on project needs, data storage needs, and the number of users accessing the database.
Write programs and scripts for databases to increase data storage capacity and fix existing database problems.
Troubleshoot database code, checking for potential problems that affect database functionality and related database programs.
Ability to assess, diagnose, and debug existing database scripts and programs.
Review daily, weekly, and monthly database reports, including user reports and systems information, to spot problems and ensure that all databases and support systems are working at peak levels.
Demonstrated hands-on experience working with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Elasticsearch.
Demonstrated hands-on experience in programming and software development using the Java programming language
Demonstrated hands on experience working with Apache NiFi.
Demonstrated hands-on experience working with Hadoop, Apache Spark and their related ecosystems.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with Linux-based systems and shell scripting
Demonstrated hands-on experience with monitoring technologies like ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with build automation technologies like Maven, Jenkins, etc.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS (or equivalent experience), 5+ years of experience
