What you bring to the table:

  • A TS/SCI security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Fluency in Python and C/C++ required with Matlab experience desired
  • Expert at applying technical standards and methodologies to resolve issues in creative ways and help company meet financial and business objectives
  • Experience in statistical principles and probability theory, image segmentation, automated quantitative evaluation of image data, and feature extraction is highly desired
  • Familiarity with spatial image processing and analysis, and geospatial information system (GIS) algorithms.
  • Familiarity with data science including analysis and reduction techniques, numerical algorithms, control systems, big data and deep learning concepts.

We apply advanced technologies such as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, AR/VR, and Cloud computing to solve our customer and mission challenges. As the Chief Scientist, you'll work with a team of extraordinary scientists, engineers, and analysts.  You will develop algorithms and unique approaches to image data processing for an experimental perform.  Areas of expertise includes:

  • Design and test advanced automated feature extraction algorithms
  • Extraction of information from large geospatial/spectral datasets
  • Development of processing architectures and prototyping software for use with customer sensors
  • Explore new machine learning approaches for feature extraction/target state estimation
  • Document developed algorithms and transition them to the software team for incorporation into the production code base.  Understanding of problem, technical approach based on some underlying mathematical/heuristic model.
  • Prototyping/proof-of-concept demonstration €“ Ability to demonstrate that the idea works on real data.
  • Develop evaluation techniques and processes. Develop performance metrics. Test algorithm and measure performance under different operating conditions.
  • Support operations with the ability to diagnose/fix problems after algorithms/software are integrated into and run within a larger system.
  • Expansion of current capabilities €“ Add to existing algorithms/code base to create a new/expanded capability
  • Experience with profiling and optimizing source code
  • Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms
  • Support technical proposal/report writing with the ability to communicate ideas clearly making use of graphs, images, and equations when needed
  • Give customers and GDIT leadership briefings €“ Ability to communicate complex ideas to audiences with a wide range of education and interest in technical details. Some customers simply want to understand the basic idea. Ability to go deep when needed.

From inventing new products or enhancing existing applications, your talent and leadership abilities will be front and center.  The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently, and in small groups, to develop ideas that meet customer needs. They are highly motivated to solicit funding, write proposals and develop new ideas, and carry through phases of scientific software development from initial physical equations of phenomenology to demonstration pseudo-code to fully documented and tested large scale scientific software.

Masters or PhD in degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Image Science, Optics, or other Physical Science or Engineering degree is required.  A Masters and 12 years or PhD with 10 years of relevant experience with a TS clearance is also required.  The SCI can be granted upon joinig.  Post-degree work experience and post-doctoral work experience counts towards experience.
