GDIT is seeking a Research Assistant (RA) I to support the Military Enteric Diseases Research Program, located at the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) in Silver Spring, Maryland.  The successful candidate should have an academic background in immunology and practical experience in this area. The incumbent will be performing laboratory-based immunology activities supporting the ETEC Vaccine Development Program such as pre-clinical (rodents) and clinical trial studies.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:                                                                                   

  • Overall laboratory organization preparation of tubes, racks, labels, media and other solutions and reagents.
  • Log in, label, separate, distribute and process biological samples (blood, stools, saliva, cells, supernatant etc.)
  • Perform enzyme-based serum and cell assays (i.e. ELISA, ELISPOT, cell culture, flow cytometry etc)
  • Handle rodents for immunological studies: anesthesia, immunization, sample collection (e.g. spleen, serum, fecal pellets).
  • Perform data analysis, prepare graphical representation of data (GraphPad Prism software), and oral presentations (Microsoft Power Point®).
  • Organize sample databases and freezer inventories (Microsoft Word®, Excel®, FreezerPro),
  • Write SOPs and reports.
  • Complete other projects and duties as assigned.


  • Knowledge of complex scientific procedures, techniques and principles; knowledge and practical experience with immunology methodologies such as ELISA, ELISPOT, flow cytometry, cell culture, and cytokine measurements (MSD, Luminex).
  • Must have hands-on experience with mouse manipulation and should be able to follow directions, interpret and follow SOPs and work in a team as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and graphing software is a plus (e.g. Graph Pad Prism)

  • Bachelors degree in a biology-related field (e.g. immunology, microbiology, biochemistry). Minimal of two (2) years of experiment working in an immunology laboratory.
