In support of a cybersecurity engineering, architecture, and operations and maintenance program, performs all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. Monitor, evaluate, and maintain systems and procedures to safeguard internal information systems, network, databases, and Web-based security.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and analyzes Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) to identify security issues for remediation
  • Recognizes potential, successful, and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises thorough reviews and analyses of relevant event detail and summary information
  • Evaluates firewall change requests and assesses organizational risk
  • Communicates alerts to agencies regarding intrusions and compromises to their network infrastructure, applications, and operating systems
  • Assists with implementation of countermeasures or mitigating controls
  • Develops, tests, and operates firewalls, intrusion detection systems, enterprise antivirus systems and software deployment tools
  • Safeguards the network against unauthorized infiltration, modification, destruction, or disclosure
  • Researches, evaluates, tests, and implements new security software or devices
  • Conducts investigations of information systems security violations and incidents, reporting as necessary to management
  • Implements, enforces, communicates, and develops security policies or plans for data, software applications, hardware, telecommunications, and information systems security education/awareness programs
  • Performs periodic and on-demand system audits and vulnerability assessments, including user accounts, application access, file system and external Web integrity scans to determine compliance
  • Provides information to management regarding the negative impact on the business caused by theft, destruction, alteration, or denial of access to information
  • Provides information assurance project management, technical security staff oversight, and development of mission-critical technical documents
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and privacy laws
  • Develops materials for computer security education/awareness programs
  • Responds to queries and requests for computer security information and reports
  • Provides recommendations to clients on information assurance engineering standards, implementation dependencies, and changing information assurance related technologies
  • Develops and improves processes and direction for projects
  • Provides information to management regarding the negative impact on the business caused by theft, destruction, alteration, or denial of access to information
  • May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals
  • May serve as a team or task lead
  • Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in information security

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with system administration and networking, including Linux, UNIX, and Windows administration
  • Demonstrated experience advising functional and administration teams on design, development, and overall best security practices for systems products.
  • Knowledge and ability to research, assess, and make recommendations regarding commercial technologies, as well as how to integrate, implement, test, deploy and support within the Sponsor’s environment.
  • Knowledge with and practical experience administering commercial IT and cybersecurity products.
  • Demonstrated experience developing documentation to meet security requirements and guidance.
  • Ability to support rotating pager duty

Desired Qualifications:

  • BA/BS or equivalent, 15+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing relevant operating system security (Windows, Solaris, Linux, etc.).
  • Knowledge of and practical experience with the Sponsor’s Enterprise solutions.
  • Understanding of Commercial Solutions for Sponsor standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with structured and unstructured databases.
  • Extensive knowledge of theories, principles, and practices in one or more of the technical or engineering fields: computer engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, mathematics, or computer science.
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) architecture and other cloud computing environments.
  • Cyber security/Encryption related education and certification(s), such as:
    CISSP – Certified Information Systems Security Professional
    CEH – Certified Ethical Hacker
  • MCSE – Microsoft Certified System Engineer
    VCP VMware Certified Professional or similar
  • Demonstrated experience with the Sponsor’s policies, directives, and standards
