The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Maryland conducts basic and applied research to develop products, information, procedures, strategies, and training programs, and provides for medical defense against biological threats

and naturally occurring infectious diseases of military significance that require biocontainment.

The Information Management Division purpose is to enable the research vision of USAMRIID with first class computer and communication services. This is accomplished by providing IM/IT management, strategic planning, IM/IT infrastructure, software application development and sustainment, communication, network, information assurance compliance and Help Desk services.

Our team is seeking a Database Administrator (FileMaker) to provide certified database administration support for Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and FileMaker Databases.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the installation and sustainment of databases defined in the USAMRIID IT portfolio. The DBA must ensure a 95% or higher Average Database Uptime
  • Supports the development and sustainment of Oracle, MS SQL Server, and FileMaker databases, including database design, performance tuning, database backup, database restore, and database replication, and develop plans and procedures to support those activities.
  • Plan and lead migrations from existing application versions to latest application versions including configuration.
  • Performs requirements analysis, query optimization and table normalization.
  • Develops and supports intranet and internet web database applications.
  • Tests database performance and functionality in response to required upgrades to operating systems and web browsers.
  • Design database tables, stored procedures, triggers, and queries.
  • Maintains Interface Control Document (ICD). The ICD provides the technical specifications of data that is shared between systems in the USAMRIID IT portfolio.
  • Produce Quarterly Database Health Report (QDHR). The QDHR is a quarterly document that provides evidence of the health and performance of the databases in the IT portfolio.
  • The QDHR includes:
    • Avg. Database Availability Time: The average time a database service is running between two unplanned downtime windows. (Planned downtime can be excluded here)
    • Avg. Database Uptime: The percentage of time that the database was available. (Planned downtime is included in this calculation.)
    • Avg. Daily Workload/Person: Average daily dba service requests fulfilled per DBA.
  • Provides DBA support to databases management systems included in the USAMRIID IT Portfolio. The IT Portfolio consists of 46 FileMaker Databases, 25 SQL Server Databases, and 4 Oracle Databases.
  • Provide DBA support to databases generated by USAMRIID SharePoint environment, RIID-Express. USAMRIID currently sustains 2 SharePoint farms, with each consisting of 20 databases.
  • Medical Division Data Warehouse. Design, develop, and maintain a Data Warehouse for the Division of Medicine. This data warehouse will contain data from clinical studies conducted at USAMRIID from 1971 to present. The system will provide reporting that will facilitate retrospective studies using legacy data culled from the Special Immunization Program (SIP) mainframe database, legacy FoxPro databases, Special Immunization Tracking System (SITS), and the Special Immunization Research System (SIRS).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree along with 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Active Contractor certification for at least one of the databases supported; SQL Server, Oracle, Oracle FileMaker
  • Certification and/or relevant coursework must coincide with version of the database that is currently supported. For example, if Oracle 12 is the current Army standard, then Oracle 12 certifications meet this requirement. Previous versions of the Oracle certification, such as Oracle 10, would not meet this requirement
  • Personnel filling the DBA will be coded as IT-II. Under AR25-2, IT-II coded position will require a NACLC-SF 86 08B investigation and form type for contractors.
