GDIT is looking for a self-starter that has excellent understanding of shipboard installations and can lead a welding team onboard U.S, Navy Ships. Performs fusion welding on surface and undersea US Navy vessels to a qualified Welding Procedures Specification (WPS), performs structural fusion welding on US Naval parts and components per the requirements of specifications as prescribed by Engineering Drawings and Work Orders.
Required to read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols, fabricates manufacture-welded parts from engineering drawing without direct supervision Maintain welding certifications, quality, and safety standards; keep records; maintain equipment and job supplies.
Fusion welding and torch brazing for ground support equipment, ensuring the procedure is completed per the requirements of the national welding and brazing codes and specifications.
Weld a wide variety of materials such as aluminum, magnesium, alloyed and low alloy steel, stainless steel, and nickel alloy steels
Required to have knowledge of the materials to select the correct filler materials and shielding gas.
Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.
Lays out and marks points on parts or sub-assemblies using rule, square, scribe, or templates.
Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools, as appropriate.
Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications. Build in-place all interior structures, hatches, doors, bulkheads, etc., to complete all the steel work.
Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced welders.
Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Dedication to quality, exceptional work ethic, and the ability to work as part of a team.
Participates in special projects as required.
1. Requires a High School Diploma or GED.
2. Technical or vocational training preferred.
3. Certified in one or more of the following processes: Stainless Steel, Steel, Aluminum and Copper/Nickel; and MIG, TIG and Stick welding.
3-5 years of related welding experience.
