In the role of a Subcontracts Manager, a typical day would include:

  • Develops, negotiates and administers assigned NDAs, TAs, Subcontracts, and other related agreements in accordance with client requirements and GDIT policies and procedures.
  • Leads the subcontract capture process which includes pricing and scheduling strategy, communicating with the subcontractor teammates regarding data calls, assessing the responses received, and coordinating communications between subcontract stakeholders. Coordinate approval of subcontract negotiations, with appropriate management staff and stakeholders. Influence discussions on proposal and program strategy as it relates to subcontractor teammates
  • Ensures timely processing of subcontract negotiations for fair and reasonable pricing as well as terms and conditions with input from relevant stakeholders.
  • Creates and maintains compliant audit files in accordance with customer requirements and GDIT policies and procedures.
  • Major contributor to problem resolution, status briefings, and subcontractor interaction as it relates to contract issues.
  • Serves as liaison and facilitator between the relevant subcontract stakeholders. 
  • Coordinates with program directors, vice presidents and all matrixed organizations to ensure subcontract requirements are fulfilled.
  • Supervises staff of junior level subcontracts administrators
    • Trains, provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced contracts administrators, and may have supervisory responsibilities.
    • Implements corrective actions and/or performance improvement plans for subcontract administrators who are not working at the expected level of performance
    • Creates and reviews subcontract team files for audit compliance with customer and corporate policies.
    • Oversees workload distribution with coordination of Sr. Management
  • Maintains heightened knowledge of relevant sub-contractual procedures and practices.
  • Actively maintains an extensive network of communication with contracting officers, industry peers and leadership.
  • Develops training material and conducts training as required for junior staff and/or other business teams
  • Identifies and Manages special projects as required.
  • Resolves vertical level/program level issues.
  • Escalate systemic or larger issues to senior manager


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training or work experience.
  • 6-10 years of related experience in subcontracts administration.

Skills and Abilites

  • Advanced knowledge of the practices, procedures, and processes involved in subcontracts administration lifecycle: Proposal, Execution, Closeout
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, terms, conditions, and policies governing assigned subcontracts, including FAR, DFAR, and CAS.
  • Advanced administrative and organizational skills.
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Ability to operate and negotiate independently
  • Extensive research and presentation techniques
  • Ability to handle complex problems with solving skills
  • Extensive GDIT business acumen
  • Advanced skill level with MS Office
