GDIT is hiring a CRA/Biomechanist - Gait Lab  to support the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) C5 Gait Analysis Laboratory. The over-arching goal is of the position is to assist each MTF in the strengthening of evidence-based orthopedic rehabilitation care that results in optimal functional outcomes of combat and combat-related musculoskeletal injuries. The Research Coordinator supports research studies at The Naval Medical Center San Diego in San Diego, California. Serves under the direction of the GDIT Program Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Data collection and reduction, including use of the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN) system and the computerized motion analysis measurement applications for kinetic, kinematic and EMG research studies.
  • Data engineering application (i.e. Cortex, Visual 3D, or body builder) usage to provide graphic output, comparison data, and other clinically appropriate templates for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Lode bicycle ergometer and software usage to collect data on amputee patients/subjects, including evaluation of findings for performance enhancement and appropriate bike fitting.
  • Explanation of research protocols to patients and obtaining signed consent from patients and research trial candidates.
  • Documentation representing monitoring of protocols for research projects and recruiting subject/patients.
  • Documentation representing study participant progress through detailed records.
  • Documentation updates representing maintenance of records, forms, and statistics for the study.
  • Data collection and data reduction processes for instrumented 3D human motion analysis.
  • Data and statistical analysis, manuscript preparation and presentation of findings at professional meetings.
  • Documentation supporting screening, advisory, and approval process.
  • Calendar of data collections and updates.
  • Incidental administrative requirements such as receiving incoming telephone calls, answering questions as appropriate and scheduling appointments.


  • Masters degree in kinesiology, human movement science, biomechanics, exercise physiology, bioengineering, physical therapy, or related field.
  • 1+ year of experience or knowledge of the data collection and reduction techniques used in the gait analysis laboratory.
  • 1+ year of experience or education in the field of human motion and analysis, including experience in an instrumented motion analysis laboratory, and with data collection practices on patients/subjects with gait pathology.
  • Possess current certification in American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers or American Red Cross (ARC) Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Knowledge of motion lab instrumentation, including but not limited to: motion capture system, force plates, EMG (surface and fine-wire recordings), plantar-pressured systems and video equipment and bike ergometers.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, concepts, and methodologies of the gait and motion analysis of biomechanics fields. Knowledge of clinical research practices.
  • Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the ability to manage Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Knowledge of standard tests and measurements for clinical gait studies (human motion studies).
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping practices specific to a biomechanics lab and human subject confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to include but not limited to physical therapy.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, computer skills, and experience with physiological data collection software.
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a favorable Secret security clearance
