Tasks include:

  • Research, test, and make recommendations for new hardware and software technologies
  • Conduct configuration management
  • Ensure all new software and hardware introduced to the network meets all applicable guidelines and work in the current operating environment
  • Provide technical Systems Administration support to the Government for NMUSA government employers and contractors on the approved Government network and commercial network.
  • Provide initial problem identification, trouble ticket submission, basic systems administration, and operational user assistance and direction to resolve real or perceived computer problems.
  • Support shall include telephone access, voicemail reset, email troubleshooting and chat capabilities.
  • Input any actions taken regarding issues with telephones, computer systems, etc. into the Trouble Ticketing Tracking System spreadsheet (changing to SharePoint).
  • Record and document all instances in support of customers using Government approved tools and processes. While resolving a systems administration problem, provide daily status updates. Upon problem resolution, input an update into the NMUSA Computer Issues and Help Tickets Log System.
  • As applicable, monitor, operate, and maintain a telecommunications management system for customers including conducting user unit moves, adds, and changes; updating the operator and directory service call detail reporting; performing trouble resolution, work order logging and facilitating the moves, adds, and changes.
  • Provide on-site IPhone support prior to elevating to CMH or cell phone
  • Provide on-site voicemail support prior to elevating to Regional Network Enterprise Center (RNEC) telephone support desk
  • Troubleshoot initial user problems before elevating to RNEC Help Desk
  • Brief new employees on IT requirements and NMUSA guidelines for password usage, internet usage, and security requirements for the NMUSA enterprise
  • Provide desktop technical support to the Government for NMUSA commercial network and the exhibits galleries on a daily basis. The NMUSA personnel environment consists of approximately 70-80 users.
  • Perform backup and storage functions, to include the following:
    • Maintain and manage storage, backups and restoration of current NMUSA systems including all system files, file systems, directories, and/or user files.
    • Monitor storage and backup systems for efficiency and utilization.
    • Provide engineering/architectural services for all NMUSA backup and storage systems.
  • Responsible for server administration; server installation, repair, maintenance, and upgrades; system back-ups and restores; applications system administration; disaster recovery planning and execution on the existing NMUSA servers. The servers mainly consist of HP and Dell servers.
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade cabling systems.
  • Obtain approval for all IT configuration/network changes
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) to keep hardware and systems software in proper operating condition. PM is performed on a scheduled basis, normally during the Principal Periods of Maintenance (PPM) as defined by the Government PPM Schedule or the manufacturer for the hardware and software.
  • In performing PM on hardware equipment, perform adjustments, cleaning, and replacement of parts according to published maintenance procedures.
  • Acquire, test, and install systems software updates. Systems software tests and installations shall normally be performed during scheduled system test periods.
  • Evaluate vendor-supplied updates or patches for applicability.
  • Implement system software releases.
  • Security and STIGs
    • Support the Certification and Accreditation process
    • Document, implement, and maintain system security policies in accordance with DISA STIG requirements
    • Implement mitigations of security vulnerabilities in response to IAVAs

Education

  • Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field of study

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in related Information Technology Field
  • Familiarity with Dell and/or HP servers
  • Familiarity with DISA STIG compliance and documentation to support RMS.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language including unique technical terminology required for the performance of these duties and functions.
  • Must have the ability to operate a computer and be familiar with using the Microsoft Office Suite.

Certification Requirements: 

  • CompTIA Security+ ce at date of hire
  • Microsoft Windows 10 or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
  • If you start only with a Security+ ce, continued employment will be contingent on receiving the additional certification within 90 days after your start date.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Favorably adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) at time of start

Work Location:

  • National Museum of the United States Army, Fort Belvoir, Virginia
  • 6am-2pm Monday-Friday
  • Telework only under special circumstances and must be authorized by the government

Travel: 

Occasional travel may be required – normally less than 10%.
