GDIT has an immediate opportunity for a Linux Engineer with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance located in Woodlawn, MD. In this role you will be an active member of the HIGLAS-HOM Linux Team performing analysis, configuration, installations, upgrades, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, compiling, securing and repair of Linux servers in a heterogeneous environment. GDIT is supporting Hosting, Operations and Maintenance (HOM) services for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System (HIGLAS) program. On this program, GDIT is responsible for providing proactive and predicative Operational management and engineering support of the HIGLAS enterprise environment, including but not limited to:
Linux and Windows Systems
Provide technical expertise in the areas of system design, installation, configuration, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
Participate as necessary in the validation matrix role to independently test and validate solutions to ensure fulfillment of all business requirements, compliance of regulations and quality of solutions.
Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, and installs system-wide software.
Install new software, troubleshoot, grant permissions to applications, and assist in training lesser experienced users.
Perform system updates, make recommendations on server configurations, and implement changes in multiple environments from test or development to production.
Develop and maintain custom scripts and stored procedures to automate repetitive tasks and improve consistency in operations and maintenance activities. May include creating scripts using various languages to include Bash, Python, or PHP to automate various tasks in multiple environments using Puppet.
Deploy approved release packages and break-fix solutions in accordance with all enterprise architecture and configuration, change, and release management policies and procedures.
Monitor infrastructure, systems operations, and critical application services 24/7; provide information and statistics relevant to system limits on capacity, data storage, system utilization, etc.; respond to critical outages and restore services within agreed upon service levels.
Experience developing and interpreting detailed installation instructions and supporting documentation to effect system design deployments.
Interact with the Program Manager, Team Lead, customer, and site staff occasionally attending regularly scheduled customer meetings to keep the customer informed of activities and progress, answer customer inquiries concerning all aspects of the various the program.
Maintain the integrity and security of servers and systems by following established security protocols and practices; analyze systems and keep systems current with changing technologies.
Respond to alerts, customer reported issues, escalate problems as required, and resolve significant matters exercising independent judgment and within established support practices.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and least 10+ years of work experience with the design, installation, administration & maintenance both physical and virtual Red Hat Enterprise Linux based web application servers, database servers, and proxy servers running RHEL/OEL versions 7, 6, and 5 or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Implement proper system patching to address security vulnerabilities and accurately report security incidents
Perform system administration tasks and monitor system resource usage
Demonstrated success in automating server builds, standardizing images, and managing Linux systems via central management tools such as Satellite, Spacewalk, or Puppet, etc.
Experience with deployment and administrative repositories through creating Puppet manifests and Shell scripts.
Knowledge and proficiency in developing scripts using Bash, Korn, Perl or Python.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Experience with RHEL 6.X/7.X systems
Oracle Linux 6/7
Experience with Oracle engineered systems (Exadata and Exalytics)
Experience with managing work tasks via tools such as JIRA and ServiceNow
Experience with enterprise technologies such as VMware, and OpenStack
