The System Architect works closely with the customer to evaluate technical alternatives and define current state and to-be architecture. This position provides an opportunity to play a critical role in the migration of CMS’s legacy mainframe systems to modern cloud-based architectures, delivering improved scalability and lower total cost of ownership.
As the Systems Architect, you will:
Apply your outstanding systems knowledge, analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities to creating and improving systems that advance CMS' goals and objectives.
You will use your consultative skills to present ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences and get customer buy in on concepts and deliverables.
You will prioritize and execute tasks in a complex environment spanning multiple projects to achieve the end goals.
You will draw upon your experiences designing government systems and software to make high level decisions for software development and to create architectural approaches for software design and implementation.
You will develop a unified vision for software characteristics and functions and provide a framework for the development of a software or system that will result in high quality IT solutions.
You will identify, recommend, and support cost-effective technology solutions based on user/client needs, cost, size, resources, data needs, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms. You will research, identify, select, and test technology products required for solution delivery.
Provide technical advice to management and end-users to further infrastructure development. Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to Systems Analysts, Systems Engineers, other Systems Architects, and software development teams.
BA/BS in Computer Science or related discipline.
At least 7 years of experience as a technical lead on a large-scale federal contract.
Experience with legacy (e.g., mainframe) and modern (e.g., cloud) design principles and best practices
Proven expertise in architecting and designing solutions for large, complex software development projects, with both mainframe batch systems and cloud-based systems, accounting for scalability, flexibility, performance, and security.
Proven success with hands on development, rapid prototyping, trade-off and selection analysis, and evaluating of various technologies.
Experience with integration and migration of legacy (e.g., Mainframe, DB2) and modern (e.g., cloud, AWS Redshift, AWS glue) database and data processing services
Extended experience with service oriented environment and best development practices.
Superior knowledge of the fundamentals of iterative developments and applications of Agile concepts and principles.
The selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for Public Trust.
Prior experience supporting the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
Working understanding of Medicare Advantage systems and data
Experience with DevOps principles, including: Continuous integration & continuous deployment; Infrastructure-as-code based configuration management; Amazon Web Services environment; Agile Development environments; Creating and maintaining design and network documentation; Understanding of systems and network architecture; Working with cross-functional teams (users, developers, product managers), in both Build and Delivery functionalities; Breaking down complex problems into understandable and iterative solutions.
