The Geospatial Systems Software Engineer shall perform detailed software design and detailed database conversion design, and are directly involved in the coding and implementation of the more complex and strategic portions of application software and database conversion projects.  Will also actively participate with Scrum development teams and meetings. The engineer will be responsible for working with a highly functional team developing and deploying custom solutions to the client’s enterprise cloud environment. Other responsibilities will include working with the team to define task breakdowns and effort estimates; as well as preparing design and test documents.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform software coding in Python and JavaScript and writes software documentation to design specifications.
  • Designs and implements data conversion procedures and perform software and database quality control.
  • Ensures the stability, integrity and efficient operation of systems.
  • Design and develop QA/QC programs and oversee design and code reviews, database reviews, and other QA/QC activities throughout the project life cycle.
  • Perform detailed software design and detailed database conversion design, and are directly involved in the coding and implementation of the more complex and strategic portions of application software and database conversion projects.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or other business-related field and 5 - 10 years of technical experience
  • Background in requirements analysis, design, and coding methodologies; documentation standards; configuration management; DoD software policies; and DoD test and evaluation requirements; distributed systems, modeling and simulation, and resource utilization assessment. Experience using Git/GitLab/GitHub.
  • Demonstrated experience using COTS image software (ENVI, RemoteView, ArcGIS, Erdas Imagine) in both Windows/Linux operating environments.
  • Thorough understanding of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) software (ArcGIS Pro, Desktop, Enterprise), Quantam GIS (QGIS), GeoServer, PostGIS (PostgreSQL), as well as software engineering and programming for GIS systems (SQL, Python, JavaScript, HTML) in large computer and minicomputer and microprocessor systems supporting broad base of applications.
  • Proficient in ESRI product languages (ArcObjects, Arcade), programming languages (Python, JavaScript, HTML, XML), Internet markup languages, and other technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve technical problems
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a small team
