GDIT has an opportunity for a dynamic and collaborative leader to support the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) client in developing new, and maintaining existing, software systems in an Agile environment.  GDIT supports the agency in its’ Agile and Development/ Operations (DevOps) methodologies, practices, and processes.   

The Agile Delivery Lead will support the IT Operations and Engineering teams. The Lead will also be a servant leader to help the team adopt and improve agile approaches for delivering IT services to advance the customer’s mission, while helping teams visualize, manage, and improve their flow of work by helping them limit work in progress, and adopt pull-based processes. The Agile Delivery Lead is responsible for overseeing delivery driving process and quality improvement.

The successful candidate will be a change agent, who is not content with the status quo.  Additionally, the Agile Delivery Lead must be an expert in Agile delivery and able to implement best practices from past experiences. The role requires the ability to successfully juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent work streams.  The successful candidate will thrive on the challenge and help the teams achieve a high degree of development maturity.  This role requires a self-directed, entrepreneurial, pragmatic servant leader who is passionate about applying Agile principles to different contexts.

We expect this position to remain primarily remote, but you must reside within commuting distance to the client site in Rockville, MD.


  • Apply knowledge and experience about different Agile approaches and how they can be applied pragmatically in different settings 
  • Provide guidance to help teams overcome delivery and Agile adoption challenges. 
  • Engage with staff and customers at different levels of the organization about Agile methodologies and best practices
  • Help teams align their efforts so that can effectively and efficiently deliver value to customers.
  • Work to leverage and select tools to help teams get visibility into their work and to capture useful metrics
  •  Contribute to initiatives to improve value delivery
  • Help teams to visualize their work, make their policies explicit, and limit their work in progress by establishing and implementing approaches to ensure teams are focused on the highest value work
  • Crafting and enforcing team policies
  • Leading projects that involve the successful management of cross-functional teams
  • Provide servant leadership to teams to help them overcome obstacles and achieve success


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Ten years of experience in the application of Agile approaches in Information Technology settings, including Kanban
  • Leadership experience involving multiple stakeholders, complex integrations scenarios, and large project teams with diverse skill sets
  • Minimum of three years of experience managing in an Agile environment, preferably Kanban  
  • Experience with technology solutions delivery and guiding technical staff with familiarity of Agile methodology
  • Experience using Agile Tools, such as Trello, JIRA, Rally, VersionOne or other related tools
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in leading process improvements and innovations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
